More Chicago tracks find its way on the HHYR label. This time the talented Tevo Howard (of Beautiful Granville Records fame) debuts on the label with a classic sounding track “Move”. Tevo blesses us with two versions of this jacking track. “Move” comes as original and an even rawer acid mix. With this release Tevo confirms that he is one of the most prominent Chicago house producers today.

The ‘Tracks From 07′ release includes the dope ‘Red Alert’, which has a certain something similar to Liquid Liquid, with its dope beat and dark vibe.’Viscoplastic’ is a deeper track with an awesome groove and feel.

This is the first Deeply Rooted House release distributed by Carl Craig’s Planet E.

Ali Renault – Slow Action Mix by hipodrome
November 29, 2009, 7:43 pm

Ali Renault is a London based producer/dj originally from Chester in the north west of England. He has released tracks for the Human Shield Record Company, Cyber Dance Records and recently mystery label/distributer Dissident as ‘Ali Renault’, and is one half of electro pop duo ‘Heartbreak’. He also releases dark elctro under his ‘Cestrian’ guise for Human Shield, Bunker records and MNX recordings. You can hear his dj mixes regularly on internet radio station www.magicwaves.co.uk, which has now moved to Intergalactic FM.

Ali has been djing for 12 years, starting in 96 at a residency with Peter Mangalore in a Liverpool club (Le Bateau) spinning detroit /chicago style techno alongside various artists including Sven Vath, Mike Dearborn, Kenny Larkin, Tony Sapiano, to mention but a few. His djing continued and production skills started with a move to Manchester in 97 where he was writing and performing with fellow cestrian Tommy Walker 3 and Autogull for live electro band ‘Studfarm vs Autogull’. Human Shield was later formed along with Peter Mangalore and Tommy Walker 3 circa 98.

After moving to London in 2003, Cyber Dance was created with Casionova and Spruxx as a means to output italo disco influenced productions. Releases ensued with Human Shield in 2003 (human shield vs multiplex ep) and with Cyber Dance in 2005 (Elecktryck Magyck ep). Later that year Ali started to collaborate with vocalist/producer Sebastian Muravchik as ‘Heartbreak’ and their first ep ‘Destroy all Power’ was released on the bands label ‘Lycrarecords’ in April 2006.

His Cestrian project was formed last year and can be heard on the Bunker records compilation ‘Artists Anonymous 3′ (as cestrian robot) as well as a recently released split ep with Bulgarian artist Manasyt on the Human Shield imprint and a soon to be released 5 track ep entitled ‘The Walled City’ on MNX recordings later this year.

XDB – Lost Tape [WM-50211] by hipodrome

XDB - Lost Tape EP, WAVE MUSIC

Wave Music has been a beacon for quality eclectic music since its inception in 1995 by New York legend Francois Kevorkian. Never one for sticking to specific genres or styles, Wave has created a burgeoning catalogue of some of the most interesting ‘dance’ music around featuring recordings from long respected artists such as Ron Trent, Eric Kupper, Pete Heller and of course Francois alongside music from some of the freshest and most exciting new talent out there. As 2009 comes to a close the latest string in the Wave Music bow is the much hailed DJ/Producer XDB AKA Kosta Athanassiadis. Athanassiadis has been Djing since the early nineties but it’s in the last few years that his abilities as a producer have come to fore both through his recordings for labels such as Detroit’s Sistrum and the fledgling Delikat and his releases on his own Metrolux label which he founded in 2006. His latest offering in the shape of the ‘Lost Tape EP’ gives an insight into his musical outlook encompassing everything from deep, Detroit inspired house to analogue based dubby techno. The EP kicks off with ‘Gate’, a warm and sonically rich slice of future techno that draws on motor city inspired strings and pads to add depth and colour to the hypnotic rhythm track. This is simple, beautiful and engaging electronica at its best. Next up we have ‘Lost’ a synth driven workout that flows around a classic repetitive bassline that sucks the listener in from the opening bars, classic tech inspired house, brilliantly delivered. Penultimate cut ‘Sense’ see Athanassiadis take a journey in the realms of deep, dubby techno with an emphasis on understated percussion, filtered loops and a highly effective simple linear arrangement, this is a definitely a highlight for those who liked things stripped back. Finally we have ‘My Secret Garden’ a wonderful final opus that brings the melodic elements to the fore and leaves you wanting more as the EP comes to a close.
XDB is undoubtedly a raw talent in the world of electronic music drawing together influences of the past with a firm grasp of progressive production and this release for Wave will no doubt further cement his reputation as one to watch.

Cover art - Above Smoke: The Fix EP

Another classic house inspired record by Above Smoke. Owner of the nice Deep Explorer music label from Madrid. Nice Laid back house tracks that don’t present anything new… but a well needed fix for the house addicts.
