Vlad Caia – Swan Lake [PNR002]

SWAN LAKE

Pluie/Noir is back with a two-track EP from the Romanian Vlad Caia. Swan Lake shows with finesse his staggering skills to craft cinematographic atmospheres in danceable patterns, bending musical styles and constantly reminding us that club music can be so much more. Both sides share the same classical-inspired background while still being quite different in mood and lightness. Striking at 14 minutes each, the progression on these tracks remain sophisticated and visionary, messing with your head and heart in unexpected ways. ‘Swan Lake’ is a delicate yet striking piece, with a precise yet unusual drum-programming and intelligent classical-music sampling. The flip-side ‘Eternal Sunshine’ is a darker toned track, with slight-flashes of acid in it’s core bass-line and ever-lifting tense chords that unexpectedly rumble between the intense atmosphere and lift both your body and soul.

Now keep your eyes and ears peeled for an original Hreno. Although it has been likened to an unmanned, deep space, probe droid. Or an unrelenting pony ride at a petting zoo. Experiencing this music is like standing on a rivers edge, or on a vast precipice. Either for the bathtub or a spring mounted dance-floor. Hreno has opened his vaults. Dive into a sonic experience, travel from Country to Country, forget boarders, feel your heart warm up, suddenly you are Completely New.

VA – Underground Sounds Vol.1 [PBR030]

Cover art - Various Artists: Underground Sounds Vol.1

Plan B Recordings is back with a compilation featuring some brand new names to the label, including our first release by a Japanese artist (Takenawa) and an emerging producer from the Chicago area (Mauser). Things start off with the twisted funk of Area’s ‘It’s Just a Body.’ Following Area is the first Japanese artist to grace one of our vinyl projects. Takenawa’s ‘Jaisalmale’ is a lush techno groover that works in deep house sets as well. The flipside features Mauser. His uptempo creations feature tight drum programming, tinkling keys, and insistent energy. ‘Small Sounds on the Redline’ is his first vinyl release for Plan B Recordings. Closing out the B side and the compilation is G. Marcell. Pulling funky breaks from dusty crates, he puts them together into the soulful yet raw ‘Naphroblac.’

Langenberg – The Finisher [DES112]

https://i0.wp.com/images.junostatic.com/full/CS476724-01A-BIG.jpg

Dessous Recordings get their hands on the sumptuous release The Finisher. Informed and influenced by the classic Detroit sound, Langenberg produces yet another exceptional transmission. The title track is a smooth like liquid gold, yet contains a dub-tinged techno edge reminiscent of Langenberg’s Ribn project with Manuel Tur. The soulful piano interplay is pure Detroit meets Essen, and combines to produce one of the year’s standout moments.Next up is Wait State, a bouncing groove featuring Langenberg’s trademark crisp drums and percussion, and a fantastic revolutionary vocal sample.Sun and Sorrow is on a more driving tip, but maintains a familiar minor key motor city deepness. Also present here as a digital bonus is Sun and Sorrow Dub, an essential rework and a dub-wise dancefloor excursion for the heads.

Antoni Maiovvi – Stockholm Synthdrone EP [GD002]

https://i0.wp.com/clone.nl/platen/artwork/large/plaatimage25294.jpg

From within fog and street lamps, Giallo Disco Records return continuing their journey into the mouth of madness with Antoni Maiovvi’s Stockholm Synthdrone EP. Six tracks of sleazed out voodoo soundtracks for the dancefloors of no named clubs in strange cities. Darkroom’s electro-tech slimes along the floor like leather clad ectoplasmic spectres, furthering Maiovvi’s own New Beat / Early Detroit fetish. Prisoner Nightdrive is a slow motion cinematic epic. Brooding FM Bass and polyrhythmic arps recall John Carpenter at his most tense. Voodoo Voodoo’s Frizzi-Does-Dirty-House atmospheres could bring the dead back to life through battered floor toms, occult chants and a ghostly piano seemingly detuning itself. The Ep is closed with a remix by Cage & Aviary’s Jamie Paton.

CCO ‎– Music For Cosmonauts [LXCD001]

CCO played a stunning and completely live & analog set at Zukunft, in Zurich. Lux Rec asked him to reenact the set and record it once again, live. The result is an electronic music suite, filled with 808 and 707 beats, 303 acid lines and spatial sounds. It was magic to see CCO at work, as no computer was used in the process every pattern specs had to be written down on paper, and machines programmed on the run. Following the vinyl EP previously released on Lux Rec, which contained revised excerpts taken from same liveset, this CD includes the entire piece.

Achterbahn D’Amour is delivering the latest 12 inch in the Acid Test series from L.A.’s Absurd Recordings. “Cardbox” is a laid back, stripped down and tripped out groove with a spacey dubbed out remix from Chicago’s Innespace Halflife on the B-side along with the bonus cut “Harmonia”.

Rick Poppa Howard – Reunion [TTHR-DR020]

https://i0.wp.com/images.junostatic.com/full/CS2069127-02A-BIG.jpg

This Ep features tracks from three of the early days having united with my father over musical ideas. To clarify, my father, Rick Poppa Howard, always enjoys his own hand written vocals over my compositions which are written especially for him. Two of the remixes featured here have been previously released as Beautiful Granville Records’ classics, while track one, Keep Holdin’ On, is to see its first appearance here. We are both proud to be presenting this edition, and we are eagerly anticipating our next reunion… T.H.
