After succesful releases on Fachwerk and the MASSIVE first release on the Clone Basement series, the time has come for another essential 12″ release by Mike Dehnert. “Lautschrift” is – to put it mildly – a wolf in sheep clothes. A sub-zero techno belter complete with vocoded voice, soft bleepy sounds and a deep bass… Properly stands out!! On the flip “Regelschrift” and “Nano” are two heavy techno tracks of the ‘neuer-berliner techno schulle’ .
The Third Man
Although The Third Man (Toby Leeming) is a born and bred Londoner, his musical roots lie in Scotland where he lived for 4 years whilst studying at University. During this time he met dj’s, producers and promoters and not happy just watching others play their trade he started to teach himself how to dj. On borrowing a friends laptop with a copy of Reason on he began to explore the capabilities of music programming and digital sounds.
Surrounded by regular techno nights featuring the likes of Stephen Brown, Neil Landstrumm, DJ Rolando and many more his taste was very much slanted towards all things techno and particularly the classic Detroit sounds. However after many all night trips to the Arches, it became apparent that north of the border people liked their music that little bit harder and this was something Toby couldn’t resist embracing taking to the more industrial sounds of Surgeon, Monolake and minimalist legends such as Robert Hood and Jeff Mills.

Skudge – Depth Buffering EP [ALPHA015]
Their debut EP comes on Alphahouse Records, and is turning heads as a late-night monster. Need a mental picture? Imagine classic G-Man, strobe lights, smoke machines, and a cavernous Berghain style freak show. The duo slyly manage to push the tracks in many directions, looking back to a time before Ableton-warped bootlegs and cheap production techniques, all the while maintaining a standard that feels fresh and experimental. Some of us are searching for more. With this record, we approach closer to that groove than ever.
Delta Funktionen – Silhouette EP [Delsin079]
For just over a year ago, Delta Funktionen’s track ‘Silhouette’ got released on Ann Aimee (one of Delsin’s sublabels).
Being pressed in a very small amount, together with his previously digital only remix of Marcus Enochson and The Subliminal Kid’s track ‘That’s a Lot of Bait’, the track didn’t really see a proper EP release on any label at all. In October this year, Delsin announced that the popular B-side to the limited Ann Aimee release (‘Silhouette’), would get a re-release together with a remix by Marcel Dettmann.
Even though this EP was planned for an earlier release, it feels very natural for it to get out in the middle of December instead. The original’s quite reduced sense brings out a rougher side of Delta Funktionen as well as following the trail established by the ‘Electromagnetic Radiation Part I’ release – dark, cold and what to expect nowadays.
Even though the original is a good track, Dettmann’s calmer take on it brings out a new visualisation of the elements of the original; while keeping his own trademark style to it. Leaning more towards his own ‘Helix’ track on ‘Phantasma Vol.3′, the mesmerizing aspects of his sound takes a bigger space over the dark and haunting elements usually acompanied Dettmann’s work. In some sense, this was quite unexpected and welcomed – even though traditionalists might overlook this EP because of that.
The power of the original ‘Silhouette’ is still there after a year, even though it feels as Delta Funktionen’s own sound has developed since its initial release on Ann Aimee. Nevertheless, it feels natural that a track getting various support by the Ostgut DJ’s, getting a remix by one of their DJs, should be on the same EP after all.

Ilija Rudman – Night People [IOR004]
Prolific Croatian, Ilija Rudman steps up to bat for the 4th instalment in the Instruments Of Rapture series. Night People is a faithful nod to those early extended house versions that we all cherish so much. All vintage drum sounds, dubbed out vocals and classic warehouse piano. Remixes come from The Revenge who gets deep and dubby for his spaced out Midnight Mix and 6th Borough Project who get heavy on the rinse for their tracked out, jacked up Love Rub.
