Conforce – Dystopian Elements EP [89DSR]

Preceding the release of his next full length album, Dutchman Conforce has selected four tracks to release as the Dystopian Elements EP. But don’t let the title fool you because, as is often the case with Boris Bunnik, there is a warm analogue/digital harmony to his sounds which is more than worthy of its place on Delsin.

Aybee / Miles Sagnia – Eternal Radiance [AER004]

AYBEE/MILES SAGNIA - Eternal Radiance EP (Front Cover)

Aybee teams up with Miles Sagnia for two cuts each on the Eternal Radiance EP on Sagnia’s Atmospheric Existence imprint. Taking over the A-Side, Aybee serves up “A Glance” which oozes with classic US house charm. Acoustic piano chords and are layered on top of a chugging bassline and electronic melody, tightly produced and melting in its warmth. “Isis” gets heavier with a more underground vibe of crashing echoes and tinny drum arrangements. On the flip, Sagnia’s “Journey 2 Forever” fuses multi-tracked choral chants, the impeccable sound of the Hammond and a rapid techy groove. His Visual Foci Reprise of “Journey 2 Forever” ditches the chants, instead opting for a sensual male vocal.

Jeff Mills – 2087 [AXCD043]

Detroit heavyweight Jeff Mills has always been one of techno’s visionaries, prone to translating great concepts into near-cinematic soundscapes. Given techno’s roots, it’s no surprise that many of these concepts have been inspired by science fiction, and in particular obscure sci-fi films. Inspired by Franklin Adreon’s 1966 film Cyborg 2087, “2087” offers a dark and uneasy but at times brilliant mix of intense dancefloor techno, creepy electronica, woozy ambience and clunking IDM – all designed to mirror the cloying futurist horror of the original film.

Ozka – Phantomz [MOW009]

‘Phantomz’ is the work of Belgian producer Ozka aka David Nizet. The title track sets the tone for the rest of the release: a dark, dense serving of techno propelled by dense beats, relentless filters and a foreboding bassline, it effortlessly captures the sound of 6am in a darkened warehouse. Aubrey is providing a remix to close the EP.
