Vatican Shadow – September Cell [NAILS001]

New 12″from Vatican Shadow on Dominick Fernow’s own, newly minted Bed of Nails imprint. Operating from his recently consecrated L.A. compound – the label will focus on his reorientation towards industrial dancefloor rhythms and seductively isolated electronics. Fernow christens the label with ‘September Cell’, a four track 12″ loaded with some of his most direct dancefloor assaults to date. The A-side breaks down into two parts: ‘September Cell (The Storm)’ pistons a martial machine coda, all hollowed Industrial percussion and gloaming synths shot through with visceral traces of his power electronics; while ‘September Cell (The Punishment)’ realigns the rhythm with a rigid swing and insurgent, caustic swipes of noise timed with exacting accuracy. On the flip, ‘Cairo Is A Haunted City’ opens with a nightvision panorama of furtive pads before rapid-fire steppers’ rhythms find formation under cover of pitch blackness. ‘One Day He Heard The Call’ resolves the label’s first session with a bleakly evocative vision polluted by Vangelis-like synth-brass flares and toxic synths…

Dont – AR 005 [AR005]

Berlin’s undercover Atelier Records crew return with a release that shares it origins with the SUED release that dropped this week too. This is Dont’s 2nd release for the label & is almost like a mini LP full of short tracks that sit somewhere between Lo-Fi bedroom synth jams, Minimal Wave, Electro & Post Punk. Basically, this is a very interesting release, seriously heavy music on here, off key vocals & some very Leftfield sounds are the order of the day.

A new series by Transhuman Records, Thematic: A Manual Of Domination. Arcanoid melts again breaks, gears and epic melodies, creating a new substance, being himself the only owner of its formula. Two tracks of The TransHumans. Hypnotic and intense techno. Energy and rawness in Birmingham’s way. Experimental noisy ambient finish this release. Industry and asphyxiating atmosphere. A cry for help by the oppressed.

Members Only – The Muzic Box Vol. 1 EP [MUZICBOX01]

Chicago cassette tape/reel splices by Jamal Moss. It opens with ”Slamming the box”, a hypnotizing, slow burning, excursion to tripped out places reaching over 16 minutes. ”Jack the floor (edit T21)” on the flip is a dark synth experiment & ”Whistle on & on” gets seductive.

Gerry Read & Kevin McPhee – Demolition Man [64768]

Bouncey House track by Gerry Read & Kevin Mc Phee, somewhere between Dance Mania and KDJ. Demolition Man is a premium slice of bass heavy, dark and dirty Tech House really hits the dance floor hard. With a healthy splash of piano stabs and moody vocals to top the track off, it keeps your ears open and your feet shuffling.

Innerspace Halflife – Wind / Phazzled [MOSDEEP012]

INNERSPACE HALFLIFE - Wind

Americans Hakim Murphy and Ike Release are two Chicago house addicts who produce solo and as a duo under the name Innerspace Halflife. Here they turn up on one of Europe’s finest deep house labels in MOS Deep with a two-track 10” vinyl release. “Wind” is the a-side the pair turn in – a main room house banger with icy hi hats dangling above a forceful acid bassline that repeats over and over as thin pads sing about above and have you look to the future. It’s wholly analogue as you’d expect, and as atmospheric as it is fierce. Ike Release goes solo on the flip with “Phazzled”, a much more laid back deep house jaunt with long legged, rubbery kicks and all sorts of busy sci-fi FX filling in the gaps. The harmonic chords add plenty of warmth and invite you to get lost in their midst – classicist house with a future perspective.

Deviere – Transcendental Numbers EP [MATH062]

New to the Mathematics roster, Deviere brings this 3 track EP that opens with Lessons Learned In The Tears Of Deceit, a deep cut with a driving rhythm & sick bass sounds & synths. My Kingdom For A Time Mach is a sick percussive joint with elements of acid & the title cut brings it back deep.

Tony Ollivierra – Absolution EP [YORE029]

Tony Ollivierra on Yore with Absolution, four body-moving cuts that liberally draw on classic US house, jazz, and even Latin traditions. The infectious title cut gets things moving with a bass-powered blend of claps and funky rhythms before chunky house chords and silken synth figures add to the track’s multi-layered splendour. A jazzier dimension rises to the surface of “Quick Release” when the tune’s churning hi-hats are joined by royally swinging electric piano playing and luscious synth pads. “Phase Down” opts for a purer deep house sound in its focus on kick drums, claps, and futuristic synths, though the track proves that Ollivierra’s naturally funky side can’t help but emerge, here as it does elsewhere. Syncopated rhythms and electric pianos emerge one final time during the wide-screen “Find My Way” in such a way that a balance is struck between synth-heavy techno and jazz fusion.

Theo Parrish – Hand Made [RB036]

Theo Parrish’s second visit to Running Back is all new material – almost. Black Mist in its extended version is just that: an extended take of the already released version on the rare-as-hens’-teeth Sketches pack. Previously unreleased and no less persuasive are Pop Off and Wild Out. While the first one centers around an endless piano and sucks you into the magic of repetition, the second one sounds like a Theo Parrish demo for Dance Mania after he came back from listening to Lil Louis at the Bismark Pavilion.

San Soda – Toch al De 5de EP [WPH016]

The new release by San Soda on We Play House, aptly called ‘Toch Al De Vijfde E.P.’ is a certified banger in all possible ways. The relase includes 4 original tracks and a collaboration with Jacob Korn on one track, to which Red D couldn’t help but write some 90ies styled cheesy-make-the-world-a-better-place lyrics, which were then put into vocals by the effervescent Belgian singer Gustaph.
