Joe Drive – Junopolis EP [4LUX1206]

Italian producer Joe Drive serves you his first EP for 4lux. Deep house tracks with a true analogue feel. ‘Rain Dance’ is an exquisite deep house bomb with smart TR707 drum programming, deep driving bassline and disco-ish vibes. Title song ‘Junopolis’ is dedicated to the legendary Juno synths and shows you capabilities of these machines in clever fashion. Alden Tyrell brings you the extremely deep remix for ‘Tefnut’: steady drum programming with spaced out synth filtering and dubby tape delays. This is one for the heads for sure. Joe Drives’ original is included too.
G. Marcell – Sound Extravagance EP [MDREAMS009]

Machining Dreams is back, this time with an EP from G. Marcell titled Sound Extravagance EP. Five musical compositions firmly rooted in Chicago, but offer much variety to the romanticized concept, as Marcell holds true to his home town production ethos with sampling, beating arrangement, and spoken word. This aforementioned variety in sound brings great depth to this 12″.
Maxime & Remain – Ghoulish [TOB028]

The Ghoulish EP marks the beginning of something new for two veterans of Throne of Blood. Maxime Pasquier has teamed up with Romain Rouffiac aka Remain and this is the first single to emerge from this trans-Atlantic collaboration. As a first statement of purpose, “Ghoulish” leaves little to the imagination with its propulsive rhythms and needling synths. For remixes Maxime & Remain looked to an old friend Sasse. “Unmanned” serves as a perfect counterpoint. Where “Ghoulish” trades in unmitigated dancefloor energy, “Unmanned” is anxious and uneasy, while Darabi turn the track on its head with their stripped back, syrupy slow remix awash in static and noise.
Ksoul & Muteoscillator – Aphrology EP [MOSDEEP013]

MOS Deep returns with a new EP from Italians Ksoul & Muteoscillator. ‘Criminology’ comes in two parts on the a-side: the first is a fizzing, almost impenetrable network of analogue lines with acid buried deep below sharp percussion and behind a mysterious little melody phrase, whilst the second features a different sort of acid: it’s brighter and seems to twist and turn with a life of its own. The b-side is ‘Aphrology’ as edited by Aroy himself. The underlying vibe here is house, though a squealing world of ticking machines, squirming synths and jangling percussive rhythms make it a heady and intense listen. Finally, the same track appears in its original form where tumbling drums, bleeding acid and a steppers rhythm join the dots between many different worlds: the heady results are sure to make dancefloors go cerrrrazy.
Amir Alexander – Idiot Savant Masterpieces EP [VS003]

Idiot Savant Masterpieces is the 3rd release and the first full solo EP by Amir Alexander on the Vanguard Sound record label. On display is Amir’s somewhat off kilter take on U.S. dance music. An approach so different that one critic described the work of Amir and his crew as Idiot Savant Masterpieces. All bases are covered, acid, deep, big room, and banging techno with a little hip house thrown in for good measure.
Joey Anderson – Earth Calls [DEC004]

Brand new release on Levon Vincent and Anthony Parasole’s Deconstruct label from New York’s Joey Anderson.
Hakim Murphy – Darkness EP [SB004]

Sound Black Recordings presenta a 12″ from Hakim Murphy called Darkness EP. This three track experience dives deep into the Chicago ethos, specifically made for underground jocks who like to bang jack tracks. Shouts to all the jacks who like to jack in the dark.
VA – The Smugglers Inn Voyage 1 [SMUGG001]

The Smugglers Inn is an independent radio show/podcast which is produced and presented by Daniel Berman aka Red Rack’em very second Wednesday. The Smugglers Inn has become a unique testing ground for new artists and productions and many of todays highly rated new school producers benefited from early support on the show. With a network of talent to draw from, it seemed a logical step to start a record label so this is the first release from what promises to be an interesting series of eclectic, dancefloor focussed musical endeavours from an all-star international cast. The EP includes tracks by Carlos Nilmmns, Franklin de Costa, Tommy Rawson and Ajukaja.
Terrence Dixon – From The Far Future Pt.2 [TRESOR256LP]

Twelve years ago Tresor Records released Terrence Dixon’s debut album ‘From The Far Future’ – a personal homage to the art and ancestry of techno, culminating in a discursive and dream-like course through the genre’s many tomes, complete with subtle nods to key protagonists such as Kraftwerk, Derrick May and Juan Atkins. After a string of stylistically rich releases, the Detroit native returns to Tresor Records with ”From The Far Future Pt.2” – an ambitious, scopey and deeply personal sequel. A masterful and extensive techno album that alludes to Dixon’s Detroit heritage and affinities, deploying recognizable tropes of techno past, spun into a unique and inherently modern Dixon vernacular.
Terrence Dixon – Escape [KW008]

Debut release on the french Knotweed imprint from this pioneer in Detroit Techno, Terrence Dixon. “Beat” powers itself from a prominent set of hats and cymbals while intricate layers of jazzy melodies interlope in an atonal fashion lowed down in the mix in true pile-driving fashion. “Escape” is a creepier affair, holding back on the percussion and letting intriguing keys clash in a measured way that breeds new scales for that quintessential Dixon otherworldliness. “Another Space” is yet more stripped back and haunting, focusing on lavish pads and the space they have to roam free.
Terrence Dixon – Untitled 1,2,5 [SUB009]

Subspec presents Terrence Dixon’s latest EP ‘Untitled 1,2,5′ featuring three all new tracks in the inimitable style you’d expect from Detroit’s Master of Repetition, which call back to his Utensil releases and Minimalism series. All three tracks delve deep into minimal spaces that he has developed since his early 90′s beginnings. Progression through repetition and close attention to nuance and detail underpin Untitled 1,2,5.
Dj Yoav B. – Energize / Gemini [DSR-SP004]

Small repress from these two tracks, his underground anthem ‘Energize’ from 2005, as included on Carl Craig’s Fabric mix cd. Other side brings ‘Gemini’ from his debut EP from 2004.
Unbroken Dub – Checkpoint EP [94DSR]

Siberian producer Unbroken Dub makes his debut on Delsin Records. The three track Checkpoint EP kicks off with ‘I Want To Make This Louder’, a widescreen, gently undulating soundscape with scraping percussion and thick, smeared synths. Cutting through the dense dub fug are sharp edged percussive ticks, driving the track forwards gently as more and more analogue textures unfold and unfurl. ‘Det Special’ is less smooth and more choppy, rising up and down as abrasive white noise swirls add caustic surfaces to the hopping wood block hits and buried deep in the mix bassline. Again, it’s seriously analogue and as cerebral as it is physical. Closer ‘Insane’ is a much brighter cut, instead of sounding introverted and melancholic it offers some hope thanks to the buoyant hi hat ringlets, up right kick drums and glassy, tinkling echo of percussion. Contrasting heavy bass with light percussion as he does, this young producer continues to find new life in the ancient form of dub.
