A dark space in time absorbs whatever is on its way; without a sign of sensitivity nor compassion and on behalf of its own continuity, the Free Fall Galaxy is a threat to all which it surrounds. Beyond our ability as humans to distinguish or analyse galaxies, the Free Fall Galaxy does not retain any kind of order in its nature. Devouring and moving in unexpected orbits, all that is known is that it endlessly consumes without becoming larger in mass nor in size. Other than that, everything is yet to be discovered. We must conjecture that this Galaxy holds many keys to unsolved speculations regarding space, time and our own existence.
As a matter of fact, it is even possible that Earth has already fallen as a prey, and that the corrosion may result in an acceleration of the sense of time and indicate the decline and deterioration of matter which we are witnessing. This raises the level of uncertainty and precariousness; Where are we? What is it about the future that evokes pressure or why can’t we imagine our existence centuries from now? Free Fall Galaxy is the new album and ninth chapter of space-and-time traveller Jeff Mills’ Sleeper Wakes series, a series. Due to its elusiveness the album reflects and portrays only a portion of when the Free Fall Galaxy is grasping another Galaxy. The album captures the triangular pursuit of a prey that falls victim to its attacker. The cover art is a collaboration between Jeff Mills and French artist Grégory Fages alias Greg13*. Known for his complex and detailed paintings, Fages uses his obsessions as a source for inspirations to drive his creativity, resulting in compositions that draw just as much from comic books and graffiti as they do from pop art, product packaging and tattoos.
“The Sleeper Wakes is a science fiction story about the structure, preservation, limits of the human species and existence, the assumed realm of other intelligent life forms, the other dimensional worlds and realities beyond the horizon of our imagination. Created as means to demonstrate how fictional storytelling can enhance and open the doors to the unimaginable, these stories are devices meant to destabilize the creative process. This series is constantly evolving, ongoing and will never stop.“
