A Sagittariun – The 23 Enigma [EDREAMS019]

Bristol’s techno dreamweaver A Sagittariun returns with ‘The 23 Enigma’, his first release since 2022’s ‘Strange Brew’ EP. A Sagittariun traverses genres with ease, peddling raw and hypnotic techno, ambient dub, breakbeat and deep electronic sounds each tinged with a heavy dose of psychedelia and cosmic power. ‘Fountainhead’ and ‘Mind Games’ take it back to the raw, with panel beating drums, frenetic percussion and wigged out synths designed for the more discerning of dancefloors, whilst lead track ‘The 23 Enigma’ goes down a wormhole of muscular electronica as deep as a wizards sleeve.

A Sagittariun – Return To Telepathic Heights [RBINC004LP]

A Sagittariun’s third album chronicles the journey back to Telepathic Heights; an expedition that encounters many obstacles along the way. The feuding parties of the two planets make for a journey of determination and self-discovery for our techno lone ranger that will ultimately deliver him to the sacred site on which Telepathic Heights stands. Conceived as a space western soundtrack to the cinematic interpretation of this tale, Return To Telepathic Heights delivers ten chapters that journal the ultimate mission to reach the imposing tower of Telepathic Heights, where dream telepathy has become the primary communicative tool amongst its peaceful and harmonious community who have opted out of the planetary war that continues to rage, seemingly with no armistice anytime soon. The score fittingly winds its way through the trials and tribulations of this journey, blending minimal and harmonic rhythms, industrial funk, dreamy synthwave and transcendental techno into the rich tapestry of music that documents the ‘Return To Telepathic Heights’. The album features original artwork by Johnny Bruck, fully licensed, and taken from the legendary German science fiction novel series, ‘Perry Rhodan’, which ran weekly from the early 1960s, and was the most successful sci-fi book series ever written.

A Sagittariun – Oxidize [NT007]

After his exciting album ‘Elasticity’ on his own imprint Elastic Dreams, A Sagittariun delivers the equally fascinating three track Oxidize EP’ for german label Couldn’t Care More. While ‘Heights’ is a stripped-down basic-channelish techno ride, rough, edgy and with a hint of hypnotic melodies, the title track heads in a quite different direction: still it’s raw expressionistic techno, but the flow is ever-changing, mesmerizingly shifting and twisting between hissing beats and enlightened synths. For the remix of ‘Oxidize’ Golden Pudel Club resident and odd-house virtuoso RVDS fires up the acid machine and does it Detroit style, warm and cold, uplifting and melancholic.

A Sagittariun – No Spring Chicken EP [HYPELTD020]

A SAGITTARIUN - No Spring Chicken EP

Man of mystery, A Sagittariun, lands on HypeLTD. The EP’s centerpiece is “3-4-3”, coming here in two versions. The Original Mix combines the usual Sagittariun heady mix of driving breakbeat techno and warm synth modulations but in a more unsettling and distorted setting. Rolando, steps up on the first of the remixes of “3-4-3”, keeping it on the straight and narrow with an intense and to the point version. “Delta House” is quite a different proposition altogether. A low-slung and funky slice of New Beat, it’s part industrial funk, part Balearic pop, with it’s breathy female vox and wandering bassline really making this a stand out track from A Sagittariun. Loaded with melody, subtle acid and cute saxophone blasts, this track further opens up the breadth of style that A Sagittariun ascribes to.

A Sagittariun – The Anomaly EP [EDREAMS011]

Hitting a particularly fertile patch with his music, A Sagittariun continues to ride the night skies with some heavy doses of cosmically sprinkled techno and kinetic electronica. ‘Aruba (Overhead Mix)’ is a seductive jam of Nuyorican (tech) soul, cloaked in warm synths with a breathy, human quality and deft melodies to ensure a smooth takeoff for the passengers. Lead cut on the vinyl is ‘The Code Breaker’, channeling some enchanting techno moods and themes on a no gimmicks, no cheap thrills, head & foot stomper, whilst ‘Triangulum’ prefers a mechanical rhythm of robotic tech funk, syrupy melodies and acidic motifs to deliver a dance in outer space.

VA – Gravitational Push [TEAL009]

Sonic contributions come from two TEAL newcomers A Sagittariun and Matti Turunen, as well as the return of Jared Wilson to the label with a fresh cut of his own. The opening drum break swirls into synth-line and syncopation europhoria on Gravitational Push. The droning bassline cuts a groove in the space-time continuum that’s so deep, it could put some discussions in Geneva to shame. The playful arpeggios of Spice Flow mask the underlying moody pads, resulting in an unusually honest piece of dance music. Flipping the disc reveals a two-track contribution by Matti Turunen. Menacing kicks and synth chirrups begin Substellar Object as a dark chest-rattling piece. However, its sonic frequency emission spectrum eventually widens into a lush composition. When we arrive at the Apoapsis of our sonic orbit, we are met with a stuttering of rhythms and bleeps. An emotional line melody confidently marks the end of our journey.

A Sagittariun – The Jupiter Chronicles EP [EDREAMS009]

Having established a particular style of house music with a series of releases on his own Elastic Dreams label, A Sagittariun. the supposed Bristol elder turned in one of last year’s finer debut long players in the shape of Dream Ritual. His first release since then is The Jupiter Chronicles EP, a four track 12″ of diverse productions that will please A Sagittariun fans no end. Lead track “Wave Upon Wave” is a fairly well titled exercise in unrelenting breakbeats and rolling Roland 303-esque riffs, and the shifts upwards as the EP progresses. There’s an undeniably subtle euphoria to “Re-Ignition” whilst wonderful chaos seems to grip A Sagittariun with the two B Side cuts, where the freneticism of “Ascella” is well complemented by the rugged yet playful “And The Moon Be Still As Bright”.

The shadowy UK techno artist, A Sagittariun, releases his debut album this November, to coincide with the Sagittarius zodiac period. “Dream Ritual” comes off the back of a steady stream of well received EPs from ‘The Archer’ on his own Elastic Dreams label, releases that have captured the imaginations of the electronic community for their depth and diversity, where old techno breaks collide with Detroit techno aesthetics, ambient dub sits alongside industrially charged electro, and many more sound palettes inbetween. “Dream Ritual” continues this journey through moods and tempos, each track sprinkled with this stargazing quality. Opening track “Sundial” sets the tone, the percussive elements teasing in and out of a melodious, thick analogue cloud. “Dream Ritual” represents the versatility of A Sagittariun, and presents a collection of music for the listening experience as opposed to a dancefloor record, hopefully following the lineage of some of the classic techno and electronic albums that have paved the way and most definitely influenced A Sagittariun on this record.

With his debut album prepped for November release, A Sagittariun drops a taster of things to come, in the form of the ‘Across The Celestial Sphere’ EP. ‘Clusters’ rolls out another dusty breakbeat in perhaps his most dancefloor-centric offering yet. ‘Fire Sign’ is a warm and jazzy slice of techno, whilst ‘The DNA Of Life’ is a moody, industrial electro joint…

A Sagitarriun – Transparent Mind EP [EDREAMS005]

A Sagittarium brandished a fully formed blend of becoming house and techno and a cloak of mystery and both elements to his/her/their identity have remained intact across the smattering of material that has surfaced in the subsequent period. A Transparent Mind is a fine return for A Sagittarium pairing two original productions against remixes from Marco Bernardi and Aubrey.

A Sagittariun – Born Under 22 Stars EP [EDREAMS004]

disc

A Sagittariun takes the reins on this recent Elastic Dreams joint. “Wind Tunnel” kicks off making concentric, rubbery movements across an icy dancefloor. The percussion and rhythmic elements fizz like potassium in water across the wax while a thin, nagging acid line infiltrates the cerebrum withouth resistance. “Cyrranus 247” continues the concentric, mind-mangling nature of this EP. Taking an eternity to drop, but building up wooden layers of synth power and hypnotic arps in one of those track that have us salivating at the bit, just screaming for it to drop. Talk about tension and release – this has it all. And again, the sound palette sets this producer quadrants ahead of the rest. “West Of Ophiuchus” has a broken beat with thin, snappy electro snares. Its not far from a Drexciyianexploration expect this time we’re exploring space rather than the aquatic realms.

A Sagittariun – Carina EP [EDREAMS002]

Bristol-based A Sagittariun’s Elastic Dreams follows up its debut release with a 4 track EP entitled ‘Carina’. The label’s latest, ‘Carina’, combines afrobeat, dub, jazz, Detroit soundscapes and British electronica to create the sort of varied EP that is rarely heard these days. While the tempos, rhythms and feelings shift from track to track there’s a deeper theme that joins them and it’s the unmistakable references to a time when house/techno meant more than heads down, 4/4 club fodder. October delivers a remix of A Sagittariun’s “Carina” and shows yet again why his output is head and shoulders above the rest. Raw, analog and emotive it’s a classic piece of house music that oozes real passion for machines and beats.
