Phonogramme brings back a pivotal moment in its history with a fresh repress of DJ Steaw’s ‘Holding On’. Originally released in 2012, the track marked both the label’s debut and DJ Steaw’s emergence as a serious producer. Fast forward to today, and the record has been revived with an added twist: a remix by none other than Ron Trent. Trent’s take manages to build on the original’s deep house foundations, injecting it with his signature Chicago warmth and effortless groove. Alongside this standout remix, Steaw contributes two more tracks that capture his enduring talent for crafting timeless house music. Underground hero and label boss DJ Steaw makes his Nu Groove debut with ‘Seascape EP’, a four-track odyssey of deep, soulful house. Opening with the powerful stabs of ‘Take It There’, ‘Seascape EP’ explores the producer’s signature, bass-heavy sound as well as the myriad of influences from further afield. The title track ‘Seascape’ contrasts breathy pads with bright, dynamic percussion, as ‘Close To You’ and ‘Exotica’ further demonstrate a recognisable, nostalgic aesthetic that is both club-ready and dreamlike in quality.

Contemporary deep house with the bumping grooves of classic Jersey garage. Tapping up the talents of French producer DJ Steaw, the EP is dominated by “Everydayz”, combining an ultra-crisp percussive arrangement with resonant bass, hands in the air keys and breathy vocals, as tight a dancefloor house construction as you’re likely to hear in the near future. On the flip, the producer provides the “Deep mix” of the same track, inverting the mood with its cloak of midnight vibes, soundtracking the club rather than the terrace. The real gem however is “Morning Light” mixing up the formula with its driving bassline and richly filtered atmospherics.
