Coming off his last record, ‘Nocturne’, Generation Next shows us that he has no plans in slowing down. Even though his last EP was impressive, ‘Ender’ just shows us how much this producer has evolved.

Generation Next aka Tre Strickland – son of Omar-S associate Big Strick – has impressed since first joining forces with his dad on 2011’s Like Father, Like Son LP. Here he proves his continued development as a producer with an excellent collection of warm, deep, soul-flecked house cuts for Strickland family imprint 7 Days Entertainment. As you’d expect, highlights are plentiful, from the skittering machine drums, dreamy chords and occasional organs of “Vanilla Sky”, to the tech-tinged simplicity of the melodious-but-tough “Chilli Cheese Fries”. Best of all, though, is the blazed beatdown feel of “The Tomorrow People”, a hazy saunter through rich chords, shuffling percussion and snaking electronics.

After a successful year for both Big Strick and Generation Next, they come with the CD album titled ‘Like Father Like Son’. Four months after they collaborated on the ‘Like Father Like Son’ EP , this 10-track masterpiece shows off skills from two eras of dance music on one platform with an array of styles and versatility. Big Strick’s latest full-length offering on his own 7 Days Entertainment label is a family affair, mixing tracks from the veteran Detroit producer with similarly deep and woozy jams from his 16 year-old son Tre Strickland, aka Generation Next. The father-and-son team’s approach to house – wringing atmospheric soul from bubbling rhythms, warm chords and blazed melodies – is surprisingly similar, as shown by the two deep, jazz-flecked collaborations showcased here. Elsewhere, both impress with their individual contributions, with Strickland Junior’s slap bass-infused deep head-nodder “Flynn’s” and sweet, winding “Mo Money” standing out.

Big Strick and Generation Next have come together to bring us three tracks that are made for the dance floor. ‘Rain Dance’ by Big Strick is the first song off of the new EP. It definitely has various aspects of deep house and soul of a Detroit native. The next song is ‘And You Too’ by Generation Next. This is a groove where you can get up and dance as well as casually listen. The bass makes you move and it is accompanied by a simple yet affective drum pattern. The last track is titled ‘Like Father, Like Son’ – Generation Next and Big Strick collaborate to bring us a melodic dance tune. This track will be played in clubs around the world. Simple chords, groovy baseline and knocking drums.

Generation Next is back with his second single release. The Medication EP features 3 tracks that are inspired by the streets of Detroit City. “Sum Light’ starts us off with an exuberant acid bass line followed by a truly original 808 drum pattern. ‘Generic Current’ is a smooth flowing, simple house track: the bass plays, the drums knock, and the claps excite. The last track, ‘Acid Alcohol’, will soon become known as a classic acid track – just listen to it and you’ll see why. As a bonus, there is a surprise gift inside each copy!
