Ilija Rudman – True Colours [IIBLP003]

Surprisingly, it’s been some four years since Croat producer Ilija Rudman dropped his much-played debut album, The Reveal, on Bear Funk. Happily, True Colours – his first outing on Is It Balearic – sees him in fine form, joining the dots between kaleidoscopic synth-funk, rubbery dub-disco, spaced-out boogie and glassy-eyed downtempo jams. Rudman is an expert at capturing the sounds of bygone eras, usually through the use of vintage equipment, while delivering tracks that sound thoroughly fresh and original. It’s this that makes True Colours such a fantastic set. Highlights are plentiful, from the close dance smoothness of “Bad Passion” and boogie dub vibes of “All The Time” (check the delay-laden hits and sweeping violins) to the jaunty electro-goes-Balearic brilliance of “Wild Guess”.

Ilija Rudman – Time and Time [EMINDS015]

Ilija Rudman is an analogue and vinyl purist his productions are always to the highest standard and Electric Minds is pleased to be working with the Croatian producer once again. Ilija delivers two bumper tracks for the A side of this release, most definitely a nod to the 80’s boogie sound with both productions thumping with bass throughout. For the B side we welcome Michael J Collins.

Prolific Croatian, Ilija Rudman steps up to bat for the 4th instalment in the Instruments Of Rapture series. Night People is a faithful nod to those early extended house versions that we all cherish so much. All vintage drum sounds, dubbed out vocals and classic warehouse piano. Remixes come from The Revenge who gets deep and dubby for his spaced out Midnight Mix and 6th Borough Project who get heavy on the rinse for their tracked out, jacked up Love Rub.
