Jean Nipon / The Magendie High School – Industry Steal Vol.2 [LIES068]

Jean Nipon most recently known for his standout productions on Parisien label ClekClek Boom joins the L.I.E.S. stable. The a-side sees Nipon go straight for the throat with a Chicago-esce muted-synth beating drum track, not unlike early Poindexter or Ricky Smith productions- it is effective, dj ready, and geared for the club. The two track b-side takes a more mellow and dusty approach- without losing his sense of rhythm engaging drum programming push along tape warbled melodies as the tracks expand and release, balancing out and letting this ep breathe perfectly.

VA – Various Cuts #1 [CCB12018]

A solid piece of wax with different weapons including already known ClekClekBoom producers and extended family. For this first volume, French Fries teams up with NSDOS on a hypnotic jam, bringing Chicago’s percussive legacy in a 90’s NYC ballroom. Then we got Aleqs Notal going deep with a new batch of his lunar material where tripping synths meet spaced out hi-hats. On the flip Jean Nipon provides his drummer background to display some infectious rhythms colliding with a shuffling syncopated bass, while Barbara Ford takes us through a heavy mesmerizing acid jam tunnel. Overall a deep and yet club-material experience representing perfectly what ClekClekBoom has to offer today.

VA – Paris Club Music Vol.2 [CCBLP003]

Last year saw French label ClekClekBoom cement its burgeoning reputation with a compilation showcasing the local talent it had been championing since starting up in 2011, including such luminaries in wild-card bass music as French Fries and The Town. There has been a swarm of left-leaning club bangers issued out since the first volume of Paris Club Music, and so it doesn’t feel rushed to be welcoming the second volume with a stack of choice cuts from the past twelve months. There’s a strong unified vibe to ClekClekBoom, from the tight but slippery electro of Manare to the off-kilter techno of NSDOS, while 50Weapons staple Bambounou sounds right at home with his primal and utterly head-spinning “Idem”.
