Module Werk – Destination Unknown [LSM003]

Module Werk continues his fine form of recent releases with another fresh sounding production for Lime Street Music. Slabs of raw drum patterns meet jittery acid and nervy cold synths resulting in four different trips for varying moods. Jeremiah R appears on remix duties and turns out a real late night driving track in his usual signature style.

Module Werk – Secrets Of The Utopian Mind EP [HLN004]

Classic yet fresh, part of the pantheon but exploring new forms: Module Werk continues where last year’s Interdimensional Traveler EP left off with a new stand-out four-tracker on Portuguese label Helena. Gravitational Tugs comes on in a Detroit rush of hi hats, claps and snares over an offbeat bassline, as stardust synths spin off into space overhead. Minor harmonies and a sparse breakbeat take Moment Of Inertia into darker territory, preparing the ground for the vintage Ismistik-style squiggle-and-stomp of Ritual Dance Machine. The mood lightens finally with Awakening, the kind of contemplative analogue electro to put on at an afterparty at your place, once you’ve changed into your comfiest pyjamas.

VA – Snare Tapes 001 [SNTPS001]

Module Werk kicks off proceedings with ‘On The Verge’, one of two tracks by the elusive Russian. Warm, yet brutal sound design underpins ascending chords, whilst percussion leaps in and out of the track to complement its narrative, before an acid-esque line, leads the way. A2 sees Drummond’s next outing on vinyl, with ‘Concentric Rinds’. Here the versatile producers track is centred around a bass line that has dynamic range from the playful to the wonderfully aggressive. Embedded underneath is a sonic remit that is as nostalgic sounding, as it is forward thinking. The second offering from Module Werk has more of a direct approach than his A1 track. A straight up acid line gets thrown around the track, while snares and kick drums dance directly with it. It’s tension never wavers. The B2 side is by Leeds and Mint Club resident Bobby O’Donnell. His track ‘Repartition’ is circled around a warm bass line while stabs, synths and hi pitched melodies happily jostle with each other throughout the track.
