SP-X – Stalker EP [KOMISCH011]

SP X - Stalker EP (Front Cover)

SP-X drops his third EP for Komisch. The Brussels-based producer serves up three more slices of uncompromising warehouse techno. Lead track ‘The Escape’ has all the SP-X hallmarks – rock hard beats, thundering claps and a swinging groove that underpins eerie riffs and clanking metallic drums‘Stalker’ reveals a more musical slant to SP-X’s sound. It starts off with unsettling riffs, but soon the rolling drum-led arrangement changes tact and provides the backdrop for a growling chord climax. There is a similar concession on ‘Attack Pattern’; bruising doubled-up drums and that unmistakably snappy SP-X percussion combine with subtle snare rolls to create a peak time arrangement. But once again an insistent chord sequence gives it the edge over functional techno.

SP-X – Field Lines Never End EP [KOMISCH006]

SP X - Field Lines Never End EP (Front Cover)

SP-X provides a three-tracker for Komisch, based on heavy, resonating beats, nagging, insistent percussion and dank, high-frequency filters. ‘Field Construction’ and ‘Internalize’ are highly effective techno tools, predicated by subtle arrangements despite their forcefulness. ‘Flux’ is the most deranged track though, with what sounds like a screeching air raid siren cooper-fastened to concrete beats – once you’ve heard it, you’ll never forget it.

VA – 61 Center Returning Vol. 2 [T2X013]

Various Artists - 61 Center Returning Volume 2

Number 13 on Time To Express presents three tracks. ‘Hope In Honesterror’ delivers 11 minutes of epic techno. Broad strokes of panned bass rub shoulders with driving percussion, slowly morphing into a tight groove. ‘Northeast’ is intensely claustrophobic, a white noise adrenalin rush pushed forward by a relentless kick drum pattern. Glacial soundscapes struggle in the background to free themselves from all-encompassing compression. ‘Extract’ is build on a minimal set of sonic ingredients, warped and filtered to maximum extend. The result is an inventive, raw and funky roller.

Komisch is honoured to release the debut EP by SP-X. Combining lean, snappy percussion with evil bass sounds, SP-X also brings slamming, skipping beats and insane filtering to each track. The ominous chords of ‘SP-14’ is the track that has received the most DJ support, but both ‘SP-17’ and ‘SP-10’ are functional but distinctive club tracks whose panning riffs and hissing percussion will destroy any club.
