VA – Red Laser Records LP [RL50]

Red Laser Records switches on the smoke machine and strobe light, dishes out the high grade poppers and continues with the most unprofessional approach in the biz as they celebrate their FIFTIETH fuckin’ release – a double disc photon torpedo diving into the label’s roster and featuring all new tracks from RL stalwarts across the ages. Marking this half century milestone, their in-house graphics team have been on a strict diet of kryptonite and engine oil, conjuring up one of the most lavish (and budget destroying) gatefold sleeves to date; alongside personal insights (and an in-depth cigar review) on their 13 year journey from label heads Il Bosco and Pharaoh Brunson.

VA – Red Laser Records EP 8 [RL018]

Red Laser is back with a blinder. A set of hardcore Manctalo uniting Manchester & Paris. Kid Machine returns to the label with a sci-fi chugger done in his unique deep style. Tommy Walker 3 turns on the lasers and tears down the rave. Alan Dente from the infamous Les Yeux Orange crew rips classic vocals for some classic sunrise sound tracking. Red Laser stalwart Starion closes the EP on a reflective Italo-noir note.

Starion – Mindbender EP [RL009]

Serious Italo authenticity from Manchester, Starion (a man who seems to be wholly motivated by sci-fi and synths) lays down a blisteringly slick synthetic serenade in the form of “Hypnoto Roboto”. Reminiscent of the work of Riccardo Cioni but with added automaton frontage, it’s a fine flashback to the early 80s by way of contemporary production oomph. Remix-wise Kid Machine adds a dubbier, almost Chicken Lips style flex. Further on Starion gets his synth boogie on with “Mindbender” while “Moonbase Alpha” is another journey through time and space that touches on classic electro as well as Italo. Laced with heady melodies, you can almost smell the emotion.

The first release on Red Laser Records, a new label releasing fine italo, electro, boogie & house. . EP1 features four Mancunian producers & a Danish Italo legend. Kid Machine collaborates with Flemming Dalum, together they concoct a hefty 80’s horror-esque electronic monster. Label head Il Bosco brings an addictive boogie disco track to life, expertly cutting insistent breaks. Starion goes deep with a nonstop dancefloor workout and some serious synth action whilst Ste Spandex covers Royalle Delite’s 80’s electro soul classic ‘Freak For You’, pitching up the original and adding extra bounce to the proceedings.
