The first release on Tape Records Amsterdam sounds nothing but colourful, distinctive and hot. This is the debut of Deniro (real name: Reynier Hooft), a young producer who resides in The Hague and only works with vintage synthesizers and drum computers. On the Grey EP he takes you along on an astral trip and indulges you with deep synthesizer leads, shifting pads, clear-cut hi-hats and relentless rhythms. TAPE001 is a deep, but uplifting release. Even though Deniro’s sound is clearly influenced by early techno records, the Grey EP is no tribute but a beautiful example of modern electronic music in true Detroit fashion. The lush, sometimes even Japanese sounding melodies make you dream of deep blue oceans and deserted beaches of far-off tropical islands. But despite of their dreamy character these tracks will definitely work every dancefloor. This is machine soul of the highest calibre.
