Andy Blake & Timothy J Fairplay – B-Ultras [EES005]

BLAKE, Andy & TIMOTHY J FAIRPLAY - B Ultras

A love of new wave, new beat, UK Bleep and Detroit techno all feature in B-Ultras and the aptly titled, Neu Beat. Both cuts are heavily soaked in the pitch black, smoke machine funk and strob-laden fug of Andy’s (and co-hort Joe Hart) infamous World Unknown dancefloor. Running at around 10 minutes the tracks are essentially an examination of acid house’s ideals. Clattering hats, throbbing basslines, stabbing keys and doses of 303. Keeping it pretty simple but all about a pure groove on and on. Backing these up is a remix of B-Ultras from Jamie Paton that accentuates the groove and drags the acid deeper down to some B-boy Dub throwdown – with more to follow from all protagonists in 2014.

Andy Blake – Cave Paintings 3 [CP003]

The third installment of Andy Blake’s Cave Paintings series. All the Cave Paintings releases are one-take analogue excursions constructed by machines and recorded live. 3x is a simple but dramatically effective warmly buzzing bassline is clambered all over by layers of interlocking pure analogue percussion. 3y heads into thus far uncharted territory. An evil, growling LFO driven bass underpins militaristic percussion that’s slammed hard into ancient spring reverbs and accompanied by the sound of synthesisers being choked to death.

Andy Blake – Cave Paintings 2 [CP002]

Andy Blake gets back to basics with a 2nd installment of his all-analogue, hardware-powered ‘Cave Paintings’ workouts. The vibe is meaningfully rough and ready, the A-side capturing a locked-in drum machine pattern and mental reversed synthline synced in tangled, captivating copulations, whereas the flipside gets loose with proper Chicago-meets-UK jack patterns.
