ASC aka James Clements supplies a fresh d&b-to-techno chain with ‘Antiquated Thoughts’, his next EP on Arts, probably one of the most estimable techno labels out there right now for the forward-thinking stuff. Those who dare hone both d&b and techno as disciplines, like they were martial arts, must see each for what they are; progeny of the same Pangaea that was once hip-hop through electro. You can hardly hear that influence here on this entirely techno record, but that’s part of the ninja illusion: ‘Strobe’ is the highlight in this regard, containing only the echo of a classic 808, as it lurches and crawls through blooping, digital hinterspace.
