Eduardo De La Calle – Anima Animus [CADENZA107]

Eduardo De La Calle returns to Cadenza with the ‘Anima Animus’ single, coupling two tracks of refined techno for your listening pleasure. Taking inspiration from the psychologist/philosopher Carl Jung’s concept of anima and animus (and do take the time to explore this), Eduardo marries arpeggiated synths and melodic chords with a soft kick and tantalizing hats, producing a slick piece of reflective techno that’s alive with melody and groove. On ‘North Pole’, we get more of the signature ‘De La Calle’ sound; subaquatic bass and searing, melancholic strings play out over a steady mechanical beat, nodding its head not only to the Detroit masters but also to the European New Wave sounds that influenced the Motor City artists in the first instance.

Eduardo De La Calle – The Methodical Machines EP [CADENZA099]

Returning to Cadenza Records after two previous singles (‘The Motorglider’ EP and ‘Precursors’ EP), Eduardo De La Calle drops ‘The Methodical Machines EP’.  Eduardo flexes his unique sound design of minimal and soulful grooves. Heavily indebted to the classic sounds of the Detroit Techno visionaries, Eduardo has built up a solid reputation through his Analog Solutions label, and also through his film production career (check the electronic music documentary ‘Beatz’ for some insight).  A staunch supporter of all things analogue, Eduardo manages to tease out some highly emotive and melancholic music from the machines.

Eduardo De La Calle’s Cadenza debut is a terrific example of the forward thinking, musical vision of the label. Having released a steady stream of vinyl 12”s on his Analog Solutions label, the Spanish DJ and producer flexes his other-worldy electronics on Luciano’s ten year old imprint. .Pink Water’ takes a minimal groove and splashes analog drops over a searing synth background, its melancholic melodies snaking in and around the joyous spring reverb FX of the machines, creating a very unique and commanding track. On the B side, .Madhusudhana’ is built upon a feint jazz funk loop, with shuffling hats and breathy atmospherics working off the heavy oscillations, coming over like a long lost Planet E release. Third track, .The Sneak’, continues the .Precursors’ theme of .machine music’, a rubbery beat welcomes in the trippy and psychedelic synth work, a delicate melody plays behind a heavy, groaning wave, pinging against the reverberating hits, providing another memorable and abstract track.

Gavin Herlihy – Back Burner EP [Cadenza048]

BACK BURNER EP

Gavin Herlihy is back on Cadenza, and he comes bearing what can only be seen as an instant anthem. Remember those foam toys, the ones where you just had to add water, and theyd swell into wonderful, unexpected shapes? Back Burner is a lot like that, but no water needed: just a needle in the groove, or a laser across the aluminum, is enough to send this sucker ballooning to enormous proportions.

Dani Casarano & Felipe Valenzuela – La Tulipe EP [Cadenza047]

Long building phat grooving track that builds and becomes a monster of an latin jazz piano key and funky bassline driven track! One of those tracks that make the trainspotters go to the dj booth to see what it is, while very likely they already have heard in the record shop!
