Marcelus – Vibrations [TRESOR287]

Following an already fluent relationship with music and a string of single releases on Tresor Records, Marcelus – given name Cedric Bros – thought it would be the opportune moment to dive into his most intimate inspirations and produce Vibrations, his debut album. This full length project naturally comes at a pivotal moment for Marcelus, his experiences and knowledge coming together to create a homogenous body of work reflective of his expertise as a musician so far. Vibrations is purposefully techno oriented. It is a personal journey through his proficiency in the genre, travelling from techno to house inspired dub techno to futuristic and experimental by the end of the three vinyls. To calculate the dark, nonetheless melancholic energy of the record, mathematical datas of Pi and Phi were deliberately measured into some parts of the composition of each track. The result is an ever-evolving web of rhythms that redefines pre-established structures

Marcelus – Emerald EP [TRESOR261]

After last year’s dystopic debut, ”Super Strength EP”, rising Parisian Cédric Bros AKA Marcelus returns to Tresor with something a little more deep and shiny in ”Emerald”. Once again Marcelus conjures up the spirits of Detroit and Berlin techno, moulding them here into dreamy modern house incantations, an inspired blurring of the lines the well-versed Frenchman has been rehearsing over the last decade.

Markus Suckut / Marcelus – 10 inch01 [REPITCH1001]

Repitch presents the new 10inch series. For the first time Repitch is releasing original tracks from new artists so it won’t be stuff from D.Carbone, Ascion and Shapednoise. The artists featured on this new 10inch series are Marcelus and Markus Suckut. On the A side, Markus Suckut delivers an epic techno track in a full oldschool spirit. The stomping broken beat is marked by a dark melody and a groan which take us back to 1995’s R&S golden age. Marcelus, on the B side, mantains the oldschool spirit of the release with a raw and mechanical floorburner that sounds like a powerful studio-session between an Industrial band and a modern Techno producer.

Marcelus – Super Strength EP [TRESOR251]

MARCELUS - Super Strength EP (Front Cover)

Marcelus serves further notice of that prefix with an EP on heavyweights Tresor and this four track Super Strength EP finds him in superb form. Leading with the title track, the 25-year-old Parisian launches with menacing intent, huge waves of post apocalyptic pressure swirling around the stereo expanses atop a thick set techno chug. Alongside it “Falcon” ascends with a slanted progress – all detuned chimes and shifting percussive touches jostling urgently for attention in mind-bending fashion. This sense of organised chaos seeps all the way to the runout groove on the flip with “Rachel’s Groove” fizzing manically throughout its entire duration while “Suspension” imbues proceedings with the faintest sense of melancholy amidst the cacophony of rattling rhythms.

Expertly crafted DJ tools from a new French producer, the serious debut ‘EP1’ by Marcelus. The A-side confidently straddles that boundary between deepest Techno and House music with the pulsing, hypnotic propulsion of ‘Perception’ and  ‘Friction’. The B-side goes more House wise with the sublime square bass churn of ‘Utopia’ and the squashed aquatic Dub House of ‘Phenomena’.
