Khidja’s new album ‘Transmissions’ on Malka Tuti is divided into two separate releases. Part 1 was released at the beginning of the summer and now at the beginning of autumn Part 2 is out. The album was written and produced by the Romanian duo, Andrei Rusu and Florentin Tudor, over the last several years, showcasing the diversity in the Khidja’s production; from shuffle to slow mow, to ‘chugging’ to new age 4th world.

Khidja continue to develop their tripped out vision with their first full EP for Hivern since 2019’s ‘Impossible Holiday’. In ‘Something In The Water’ the Romanian duo presents three new tracks that drift between genres and moods through open minded studio experimentation. “The Future Has Disappeared” and “Back To Vid” rely on contrasting sound palettes and a smart use of the stereo field to build up tension while ‘Science of Ghosts’ is an expansive number of galactic electro-funk. The 12″ features a stripped out mystical remix by Azu Tiwaline while the digital release includes two extra oddball dancefloor cuts.
The new installment of the Hivern split series features John Talabot and Khidja. Both tracks have slowish tempos, are built around obsessive motifs and make an outlandish use of delays. An unsettling and menacing atmosphere, fruit of masterful exercises on tension building, that seems tailored for those early moments in a set when you feel the need to rise the pressure without causing too much of a blast. These tracks are prime examples that’s there’s space for functional tracks away from the most obvious paths. And that’s the ultimate purpose of the series.
Romanian production duo Khidja present their first EP for DFA. With four tracks of inner city insomnia, The Middle Of The Night soundtracks the realm between being half awake and asleep. With jagged and pulsating synths and dubbed out howling vocals, we are left disorientated in the underground tunnels that connect the clubs of Bucharest, London, and Berlin. Summoning the spirits of Kraftwerk and John Carpenter, they cast a spell on the dancefloor that is a perfect addition to the ever-evolving DFA roster.

2018 is going to see the bond between Khidja & Malka Tuti strengthen, with the Romanian duo bringing forward their eclectic, cross-genre approach to electronic music. ‘Plot’ and ‘Am I Really Here’ are two dance-floor bangers, not hiding behind fashions and hype, the duo is pushing forward on both tracks, each with its own idea and story to tell.
Khidja are back on Malka Tuti and this combo cannot and will not dissappoint. They continue their current direction of leftfield-club music exploration, this time in the form of Microb, a track that is a wolrd of its own, fusioning heavy industrial vibes with their own take of “worldly music” to create this peak time dancefloor bonanza. On the flip side Salon Des Amateurs Tolouse Low Trax delievers two takes on the original track, stripped down and turned upside down, adding those Massive vocals. These takes are hypnotic as they are groovey and they complete a unique package for the modern dance floor explorers.
P-Balans is activating again all its current accomplices in order to reinforce the heretic electronic scene of Bucharest. A first collaboration of Khidja, masters of psychedelic depths, and Delusion Men (comprised of Holy Fix and Utopus), the reliable founding persons of Future Nuggets. All together delivering a smash techno-punk EP uplifted by an enchanting slowburner remix signed by Borusiade.
Flore and Rusu met in high school. Growing together through various musical phases, they ended up channeling their love for outlandish dance music into one of the most exciting projects to emerge from the bubbling Eastern Europe underground scene. In their Hivern debut, they keep pushing the boundaries of their sound to forge some of their boldest productions to date. In all four tracks of Impossible Holiday, we find distinctive elements of the Khidja palette recomposed under a new (and darker) light.
For its 3rd release, Malka Tuti is welcoming Khidja to the ever expanding family. The Romanian Duo appears to be in great form after their successful releases on Emotional Especial and Love on the Rocks. With their unique approach to production that combines recording alot of friends playing live instruments (Saz, Guitars, Violins, Persian Poetry just to name a few) and with references to obscure Fusion Jazz as well as to early Industrial and techno music, a very fertile and creative ground was made. Out of it Came Racheta El Fadaa, a unique slow hypnotic tune with some Arabic and Andalusian touches, that keeps on evolving, Drums of Taksim, a timeless tune, with the mesmerizing speech in the beginning followed by heavy bass and uncontrollable string grooves, and Monkey Tiger, a pure Industrial mid-tempo power track for all the chuggers out there to go mental to with its heavy baseline, screaming violins and dance floor scorching synth lines. On the remix to Drums of Taksim we find a collab between Turkish maestros Baris K & Mehmet Aslan, that strips the original down, pitches it up, and give the ep a bit of a mid-tempo house touch and a final seal of approval.
Coming hot on the heels of Khidja’s return to the label with their Never Seen The Dunes EP, is a set of remixes by friends and family of the label and band, featuring no less than Discodromo, Inflagranti, Red Axes and Selvy on mixing desk duties. A proper Remix EP with all 4 tracks from the original EP getting a proper European flavored rework.
