ADJ – Selected Transmissions From The Pyramid [KNOE10/1]

Andy Jaggers (aka ADJ) is a name that has been synonymous with the underground electro scene since the mid-nineties. Andy released his early works as 3 Elements on his own label Analogique, delivering 4 now very hard to find records in between ’95 and ’96. Later he would set up Pyramid Transmissions with Pathic to release their own productions and those of likeminded individuals pushing the envelope of the electro sound outside the normally accepted boundaries. For Those That Knoe has worked extensively with Andy to put together a deliciously cohesive eight-track compilation of his works spanning the more recent period of his production career. The LP includes Pyramid Transmission vinyl favorites, cuts only previously available on his digital albums and some pieces released for the very first time.

Jaime Read – The End Of [KNOE1/2]

Jaime’s take on futuristic chi-town influenced house is present across the selections. Written 21 years ago, the music is more relevant that ever. Serene galactic themes and time travel optimism permeate the collection: the music tells tales of optimism rather than the bleak images carved by other similar compositions of the time.

Casey Tucker – Knoe 2/4 [KNOE2/4]

For Those That Knoe are back with another wedge of dusted down delights from Casey Tucker, a hidden treasure of the mid 90s that nearly got away. Fortunately his effervescent machine soul jams have found a new lease of life with these reissues, and this fourth installment comes from a freshly unearthed box of DATs that pushes Tucker’s story even further. “Inner Strength” is a pumped up shot of dynamic techno in the classic sense of the word, mysterious but hopeful, tough but sensitive. “Terraform,” which previously aired on a long-deleted 12″ from the 90s, takes things skywards with an unabashedly positive tone to the dense layers of synths and box beats. “Waiting Game” rounds the EP out on a wistful, acid-drenched tip – let’s hope there’s more jams of this quality to come from the Tucker archives.

Sir Lord Commix – Knoe 6/1 [KNOE6/1]

Amoon Andrews may be a name known only to a few heads. As Sir Lord Commix, he released quality over quantity, putting out just 4 EPs in a ten year period which were criminally overseen by many. For Those That Knoe has worked hard with Amoon to put together a delectable selection of some undiscovered gems previously consigned to the archives on DAT. Freshly dusted off and remastered are four tracks that showcase the varied influences that drive Sir Lord Commix to provide those signature sounds. Pieces of a Dream is a heavy modern deep house track with swinging hi hats and a bassline from disco hell.

Derek Carr – Knoe 5/1 [KNOE5/1]

Derek Carr is a name known by few and far between, with only a handful of vinyl releases in the early 2000s, he built a worthy but unfortunately not widely-spread reputation for putting together stunning deep techno. Originally pressed in finite numbers, the records have recently found themselves in demand on Discogs, and rightly so, Derek’s music is in a class of its own. Having been a big fan since his releases on then local (to label owner Ben) Leeds label Geek Records, For Those That Knoe has dug deep into the archives to put together a sizeable selection of Derek’s back catalogue, with some unreleased gems dotted amongst the classic must-haves.

Numonika – Knoe 4/1 [KNOE4/1]

For Those That Knoe present some of the freshest and timeless sounds the UK has to offer from Numonika, sounding as good now as they would have done when recorded ten years ago. Three tracks from the original demo CD have been selected, compiled, re-mastered and pressed by For Those That Knoe onto a special 12″ for collectors and club DJs alike.

Leigh Dickson – Knoe 3/2 [KNOE3/2]

Leigh’s second part in his chapter on For Those That Knoe starts with the blissful house moods of Cresnet. A punchy kick and modulated bassline provide a weighty bottom end, complementing lush pads, sweeping FX, percussive stabs and ethereal strings. Ion is a track that is hard to pigeonhole, Leigh casts all preconceptions aside by creating a grooving piece of dance music that sounds as forward thinking today as I would have when it was written. At One on the flip is a little burst of funk with snappy beats and crisp percussion a fuzzy bassline. Closing out the EP is a previously unheard and unreleased extended version of the timeless electro classic, Praise. Keeping all the elements of the original, this uncovered version has a new beat intro and longer arrangement.

Leigh Dickson – Knoe 3/1 [KNOE3/1]

Beautiful house, techno and electro in the deep aesthetic that we know for the For Those that Know label. First of 2 ep’s coming summer 2014 kicks off with Chimera; a soothing and warm electro cut with soft pads and twinkling lead lines. Aerobatics, originally released on Qube in 2002 slots onto the A2; it meanders into darker territory with saw tooth synth basses, squelchy acid and industrial break beats. Sketch Form on the B-side is a slow tempo house track with chunky distorted rhythms and percussive driven bassline, complemented neatly by swooping square pads and a delicate lead. The Closed Box rounds off the EP with its stripped electronic break beat and late night harmonies.

After the success of Casey’s first chapter on For Those That Knoe, he returns with three more liquid techno tracks, unearthed from his 90s archive. Two unreleased pieces are pressed alongside an absolutely rare deep gem from the Fine Balance vaults. ‘Tanita’ is bright and melancholic bringing its phased soaring pads and slippery acid funk. Yet again Casey delivers a unique take on Techno, shattering those preconceptions of the genre’s dark and moody melodies with warmth, swing and harmony. The flip sees ‘Stratosphere’, a drop down into the abyss with a haunting lead, moody pads and a squelchy arpeggiated synth. The track speaks through the pure emotion of the harmonies Casey creates; able to tell a number of stories through his melody. The B2 plays host to a perhaps more stereotypical 90s style tech house track. The chord stabs and intrinsic delay patterns of ‘Secret Desire’s breathe funk over swinging rimshots and sizzling hi hats. The track sets itself apart from most 90s tracks with clever arrangements, an unpredictable but bumping bass line and some fine live work on the synths and groove boxes.

Casey Tucker – Knoe 2/1 [KNOE2/1]

For Those That Knoe has dug a little deeper into the history books to unearth a somewhat understated gem in the form of Casey Tucker for the second chapter of For Those that Knoe. The mid nineties was a time when the sounds of Techno and House were being combined, new sub genres were emerging into clubs and DJs were forging their own unique take on dance floor electronic music. Some of the finest melodic Techno piece with glorious strings, sun drenched pads, liquid acid funk and sizzling hi hats, Some early acid rave sound and the purity of the early tech house sounds before digital audio workstations became favoured over their analogue counterparts.

LHAS – Knoe 1/1 [KNOE1/1]

For Those That Knoe: A new label from the UK focusing on under the radar tracks recorded by unsung heroes, ripped from dusty DATs and lovingly re-mastered and pressed onto vinyl for likeminded people and music collectors alike. Jaime Read as LHAS is one of the unsung heroes on the UK house scene, initially making house music brimming with Chicago jazz flavours and disco tendencies in the mid-90s. Deep from Jaime’s archives come three funk-filled melodic analogue jams, all with their own unique character yet still encapsulating Jaime’s individual take on Chicago jack.
