Sa Pa – Fuubutsushi [FORUMIV]

There’s something decidedly mysterious and otherworldly about this fourth release on Giegling’s Forum sub-label. As usual, they’re not giving much away, and to make matters worse the artist at the controls – the previously unheard of Sa Pa – is a debutant. Happily, the music – a mix of crackly, fizzing, minimal-influenced experimental techno, ambient and weirder, dub-flecked explorations – speaks for itself. Fuubutsushi is an impressively atmospheric and off-kilter affair, with Sa Pa paying much attention to the tiniest of details (see the intricate sound collage that forms the rhythm track on the bleak “Tagularius”). If this is indeed Sa Pa’s first outing (and there’s a suspicon it’s an alter-ego, given the quality of the production), it’s rather impressive. A poet’s reminder of a specific season.

Kettenkarussell – Easy Listening [GLGLP004]

In times where a rave feels pretty much like a funfair, the chairoplane is still the nicest ride. Thinking of Kettenkarussell some might remember one of those gathered moments in a low summer night under the clear sky when things made sense for a while. But those memories fade away quite fast or seem really strange a few years later on youtube. So what is it that is left behind? After 10 years of collaboration the couple decided to do an album that might challenge the comfort zone of those who try to keep up that easy living. It’s a record full of holes. And still this is what keeps them together. In pain we trust… and yes i believe you and me will make love forever…

Vril – Torus [FORUMII]

Vril debut LP on Giegling sublabel Forum. After appearances on other labels like Semantica and Delsin, Vril has now returned home to Giegling to release Torus, a surprise eleven-track LP with track titles that seemingly combine HTML-speak with Roman numerals. Vril’s productions combine elements of booming dub techno with murky reflections of rave with his own patented and progressive synth sound. Torus sees Vril deliver more of this, but he’s also extended the remit on this album to include other elements of dance music, with what sounds like Clone-inspired (west coast) electro, Chicago house and flashes of Adam X-industrialisms.

Traumprinz – Mothercave [GLGLP003]

… In a soft night of confusion the ape was born into his lion mother’s lair. As he grew older, he danced in countless circles around his father’s fallen empire. Spent by fires of ecstasy, the departed reptile king appeared in his sleep and told one love will show you how to fly, and he sang forget the world, ’cause no man will ever wake up from that insubstantial world of cycles…

The Prince Of Denmark is back. Giegling presents Prince of Demarks debut album on their new techno imprint “FORUM”. Most of the material recorded in 2010 shows the path of the warrior, his needs and desires that left traces along his way.

Matthias Reiling – Das Gespenst Von Altona [GLGLP01]

DAS GESPENST VON ALTONA (LP)

The first LP on Giegling is the debut album for Matthias Reiling (1/2 of Session Victim), called “Das Gespenst von Altona” (The ghost of Altona) – Altona is a district of Hamburg. Going from house to hip/triphop, this guy shows that he’s got the funk – and lots of groove to share.
