Nick Anthony Simoncino’s HotMix Records presents Obscure Underground Dreams Vol. VIII, a collection of 14 obscure underground house gems.

For the latest release on his pleasingly nostalgic Hotmix Records imprint, house retro-futurist Simoncino has turned to Benedek, a Los Angeles-based producer who’s atmospheric, synth-heavy cuts sit somewhere between glassy-eyed Balearic house, mid-80s New York proto-house, deep boogie and Mark Seven’s more sun-soaked productions. He’s delivered a pleasingly strong EP too, with highlights including the subtly bleep sporting Paul Simpson-meets-Charles Webster flex of ‘Puffed Tribe’, the glistening guitars, glossy synths and sunset-friendly colour of ‘After Midnyte’, and the more spacey and psychedelic – but no less tactile and melodious – early morning shuffle of ‘Badlands Oasis’.

Given that Nick Anthony Simoncino’s take on house has always been nostalgic and retro-futurist in nature, frequently paying tribute to the ’80s and ’90s work of key American producers, it seems fitting that his latest 12″ boasts rubs of catalogue tracks from two deep house icons, Larry Heard and Ron Trent.

The Chicago Master Ron Trent re-interpreted Nick Anthony Simoncinio’s ”Jungle Dreams”, formerly out on Mathematics in 2013.

Another quality release on Hotmix Records, featuring tracks from Fabio Monesi, KMTR, NLXLP, Ricardo Baez.

This is what legends are made of: Acid House, Chicago 1988, Mickey Oliver and his Hot Mix 5 Records, Larry Heard aka Fingers, Pierre, Phortune & Armando. Released in 1988, ACID LP was the first and only full length on Hot Mix 5 Records. It is much more than a classic album, it’s a staple for any self respecting DJ. This is probably one of the best Acid House compilation to make it out of Chicago. Still Music is proud to start its Hot Mix 5 Records reissue series with such a monument to House. Every track on here is a classic in its own right, with Pierre’s “Dreamgirl”, Armando’s “151”, the two incredible Fingers tunes ”The Juice” and “Ecstasy” and so much more. For the first time, this reissue features all the songs that were on the original release but remastered and on a red vinyl DLP. Don’t sleep on the ACID.
