Pye Corner Audio – Where Things Are Hollow: No Tomorrow LP [LPS41]

Electronic music visionary Pye Corner Audio, a master of blending nostalgia with forward-thinking production, has carved out a unique niche in the electronic music landscape. Drawing inspiration from 1970s and 80s synthesizer music, Detroit techno, and cinematic soundtracks, his work often evokes a sense of eerie futurism. Lapsus Records present “Where Things Are Hollow: No Tomorrow”, a comprehensive box set revisiting and expanding his acclaimed Where Things Are Hollow series. This release includes the first two volumes – with volume 2 featuring an unreleased track – and two additional chapters that further enrich the series’ narrative. Once again, Pye Corner Audio delivers innovative soundscapes, drawing inspiration from ambient techno, cinematic electronica, and experimental slow disco. The third installment unveils a constellation of entirely new tracks, weaving the ambient, synthwave, and retro-futuristic textures that define Jenkins’ work. Meanwhile, Where Things Are Hollow 4 amplifies this narrative, incorporating reinterpretations by some of today’s most visionary artists: Alessandro Cortini, John Talabot, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Lord Of The Isles and Surgeons Girl

KORAAL - La Casa Del Volcan

All written and produced in chronological order in November 2019 by Oriol Riverola aka John Talabot, in a three-night session on the island.

VA – Fragments 1 [HVNCOMP1/6]

Part one of Hivern Discs’ Fragments compilation. While compilations tend to look backwards, ‘Fragments’ is far from being a retrospective. Since its launch in 2008, Hivern Discs has favoured a documentary approach, capturing the most vital and exciting sounds within its orbit at each particular moment. In keeping with the ethos of the label, this extensive compilation, comprising 29 new tracks across six 12″s, offers a panoramic glimpse of Hivern’s present and gives indications as to its near future. This is the first part and includes five tracks by Arthur Evans, Benedikt Frey, Epsilove, John Talabot and Walden.

John Talabot / Khidja – HVN C/D [HVNcd]

The new installment of the Hivern split series features John Talabot and Khidja. Both tracks have slowish tempos, are built around obsessive motifs and make an outlandish use of delays. An unsettling and menacing atmosphere, fruit of masterful exercises on tension building, that seems tailored for those early moments in a set when you feel the need to rise the pressure without causing too much of a blast. These tracks are prime examples that’s there’s space for functional tracks away from the most obvious paths. And that’s the ultimate purpose of the series.

Lost Scripts – S.O.P. / A.F.K. [HVNED004]

LOST SCRIPTS aka JOHN TALABOT/MARC PINOL - Hiverned #4

The Hivern edit series is back with its 4th instalment, this time with two joints by Lost Scripts, the duo of John Talabot and Marc Pional. On the A side, S.O.P. revamps the theme of a popular TV series with krautish rhythms and woozy percussive details to transform it into kosmische monster ready for the club. On the flip, A.F.K. is an uplifting afro-house number that pairs ritualistic percussion and African chants with curly synths to create a journey that starts in the savannah and ends in outer space. A proven dancefloor wrecker.

Two sample laiden ‘edits/ not edits’ here courtesy of O F F M S G. Hott – Works Karen Young’s classic ‘Hot For You’ vocal to fantastic effect. It comes off sounding like half vintage Master C+J, half early Permanent Vacation 12”. Theme – The result of a Todd Terry and John Talabot jam session. All bouncing house organs and stripped back beat, with a smattering of female new yorkiyan vocal reassuring us…“Gonna be alright…”
