VA – Nowhere 02 [NOWHERE002]

The second chapter of the Nowhere Series brings four forgotten dance floor bangers. First up is a dark and twisted acid track “Flashback” by Laurent Garnier, from 1997. “It Talks To Me” is proper Detroit techno, with it’s abstract stabs and moody strings, by Donnell Knox and released in 1995. On the flip are two forgotten gems. “Inferno” came out in 1993, a full on acid affair, with a massive break made by Dutchies Eric de Man, Frederick Borgesius, Heiko van Eindhoven, Kamil van der Wal and Saul Poolman. “Solartrek” by Roland Klinkenberg is closing the release. This track was picked up by I-F in 1995 for his Top Secret label.

DJ Nobu – Beyond Space & Time 001 [BEST001]

Beyond Space And Time is the new record label from Japanese music festival, Rainbow Disco Club (RDC). RDC has been welcoming music loving people to Japan for over a decade. Throughout the festival’s history, RDC have been fortunate to constantly encounter performers and DJs who’ve collaborated with them in establishing a beautiful dance floor year in, year out. These relationships have lead RDC to start their own label, and now gives them the opportunity to reveal one of the best-kept secrets: What is in a DJ’s record bag? This time around, festival regular DJ Nobu kindly opens up his collection and shares the music he loves with us all. On visual duty we welcome Senekt – his representational yet contemporary drawing illustrates the emotion we feel from DJ Nobu.

Garnier – AF 4302 EP [50W034]

You have to admire Laurent Garnier’s continued desire to push boundaries and confound critics. His plan to devote 2014 to releasing five EPs on five different labels, whilst mixing up the styles, is undoubtedly bold. This three-tracker for the ever-intriguing 50Weapons imprint is particularly impressive. “MILF” bristles with stuttering analogue rhythms, foreboding chords and attractive bleep melodies, coming on like an unlikely jam session between Sweet Exorcist and Orbital. “DSK” sees the French veteran moving further towards his techno roots, while “He” sounds like an homage to darkwave with techno overtones and more than a hint of stripped-back early Chicago acid.

Laurent Garnier – Jacques In The Box Remixes [BEC5161353]

Ed Banger and Laurent Garnier work together to give birth to a new remixes EP of the track “Jacques in the Box”. The first remix, signed by the french-germanic Gesaffelstein and Brodinski, offers a rythmed and delicious heady collaboration strongly inspired by german influences. On its side, Chicago Bordelo delivers a clearly dynamic and electric sound giving new techno impulsion to the track of french electro Grand Master.
