Anopolis – Dimadou [APR01]

The third release in the Anopolis trilogy coincides with the founding of Anopolis Records. Like the previous two EPs, Dimadou takes reference points from the sound of the 90s and avoids getting bogged down with track titles. The first track, A19 is noticeably influenced by the Sheffield scene and Rising High records. The EP continues with the heavy bass line and the TR-707 drums of A18, a strong nod to the Chicago sound. On the B side, drum machines dominate in A21 and A20 with their piercing sound hinting towards the style of Ron Hardy. Rounding off the EP is the atmospheric A17 and its warm, hazy pads. This final part of the trilogy is simultaneously the beginning for further releases through the project s new imprint Anopolis Records.

Sone Urbia – Sone Urbia [LP16]

Sone Urbia is a collection of improvisations recorded live during the period of 2011-15. A grainy meditative voyage into layers of field recordings, old sampled records, synthesizers, acoustic and non acoustic instruments. This album works as a mixtape separated in two sides, two journeys; two soundscapes.

Ioannis Savvaidis – NSA Trusted Networks [LP012]

Greek label Lower Parts is back with a cinematic new EP from Athenean artist Ioannis Savvaidis. Influenced by his love of old school computer programming, all four tracks are live jams made with classic Yamaha machinery from the nineties. Form start to finish this is an absorbing ambient release that transports the listener into the world of science fiction. Gently unfolding and expanding in all directions, Savvaidis invites you to cut loose and get lost in your own mind. Some are tracks darker and more foreboding, some are airy and heavenly, but all together the EP acts as a movie lived out in the mind.

DJ Stingray – Cognition [LP007]

Next up on Greek label Lower Parts is a fierce EP from the one and only DJ Stingray. The word cognition comes from the Latin verb cognosco (con ‘with’ and gnōscō ‘know’) (itself a cognate of the Greek verb γι(γ)νώσκω gi(g)nόsko, meaning ‘I know, perceive’ (noun: γνώσις gnόsis ‘knowledge’)) meaning ‘to conceptualize’ or ‘to recognize.

Anopolis – Anopolis [LP005]

Anopolis are a collective of four Thessaloniki based producers (Dimitris Evagelopoulos aka DimDJ, Drum Machinee, Lowjac, Oldman Talkin’) coming together for their first release on Lower Parts. The EP starts with Anopolis 2, a long, disco flavored track, built up gradually with phasing pads , lead melodies and an arpeggiated square bass line. The hypnotic feeling of Anopolis 5 is up next taking things deeper and textural while Anopolis 11 stands strong with it’s relentless acid loop juxtaposed with sharp drums washed in reverb. The final track of the EP arrives in the form of a remix of Anopolis 2 by Elec Pt.1 creating a mysterious and sinister atmosphere.
