Qnete – Play-Doh Stories [777_15]

‘Hello, I am Qnete and these are my Play-Doh Stories. Some of them are already three years old and it feels like I’ve become somewhat of a different person since then. Still, I like to listen to them from time to time, thinking of how I was back then, reminding me of what helped shape me, what helped me become who I am now. Sometimes, I also get the feeling that it is not me who wrote the stories. They seem to seem unknown to me, just like they seem to you, because you are not me. Then I listen, and I know again.’

Qnete – If Everything Suddenly Changed EP [WAKEUP007]

If everything suddenly changed – what would that be like? Qnete’s EP is not the question and not the answer. It’s in a hiatus between hopes and fears, still maintaining an eager energy. Within a short period of time all tracks were recorded straight to tape, raw and improvised. They remember the sun bath before the storm, when you feel that something is about to roll over you. They express the urge and need to sometimes just jump into the cold water to face what’s coming next. They linger in the nervous energy when you’re lost and don’t know what to expect. But they also talk about the hope of finding a safe place.

Qnete – Lessons In Finding [LTWHT006]

Prior to joining up with Lobster Theremin for this volume of their white label series, Qnete’s output had largely consisted of powerful but spacey tracks in an intelligent techno-meets-classic Detroit vibe. While hints of that style are still present on his first Lobster Theremin outing, there’s a much more “classic deep house” feel throughout. Opener “A Luv Jam” comes across as the sort of expansive, star-gazing, Larry Heard inspired jam that moves the head just as much as the feet, while “I Might Be Wrong” doffs a cap in the direction of the Motor City whilst retaining an early ’90s feel. As for flipside “Dresden”, it offers a magical fusion of fizzing, Chicago-inspired drum machine rhythms and spacey, almost endless deep space chords.
