Hieroglyphic Being – There Is No Acid In This House LP [SJRLP518]

“There is no Acid in this House” is Hieroglyphic Being’s third solo album on Soul Jazz Records, a resolute and powerful statement of Jamal Moss’s raw, vital, pioneering, Afro-Futurist electronic (dance) music. Moss once-again draws upon the vast scope of experimentation that has defined Chicago’s musical universe over the last half a century – from the birth of house music with the pioneers Ron Hardy, Marshall Jefferson, Lil Louis and others to the radical avant-garde jazz legacy of the city, The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, The Art Ensemble of Chicago and Sun Ra.

Hieroglyphic Being – The Red Notes [SJRLP394]

For the first time since 2016, Jamal Moss has pitched up on Soul Jazz with a typically eccentric and mind-altering full-length excursion. As you’d expect, The Red Room is another triumph – an inspirational collection of otherworldly and melodious cuts that effortlessly combine elements from Moss’s many major inspirations. One minute, you’re wigging out to his jacking, piano-heavy fusion of gospel house and synth-jazz (“The Seduction Syndrome”), the next he’s laying down a chunk of deep space ambient with Terry Riley synthesizer cycles (“Awake and Energize”).

Africans with Mainframes – K.M.T. [SJRD333]

Jamal Moss, aka Hieroglyphic Being, returns this time under the alias Africans with Mainframes. With fellow Chicagoan Noleian Reusse they have been releasing music under the name Africans with Mainframes for over 15 years now. The K.M.T. LP is the debut album from the group, a collage of apocalyptic Chicago acid meets industrial and transcendental post-house machine funk. Both intense and unique, the album of forward-thinking, experimental, boundary-pushing Afro-futurist electronic music shows why Hieroglyphic Being is regarded as one of the most serious purveyors of experimental electronic music today.

Kassem Mosse ‎– Staat Aus Glas EP [SOTU004]

Three exclusive raw house & techno tracks from Kassem Mosse on Sounds Of The Universe label. This single is part of our Art+Sound 12” series. Channeling diverse percussive and rhythmic traditions – religious drumming ensembles filtered through astral jazz, Underground Resistance’s rugged 909 output tempered with considered minimalism all cut together with signature slow motion groove, textures contrast and sci-fi synths.  This first EP on the Sounds Of The Universe label travels through the dissonant orchestral sweeps, gliding metallic harmonics and tight polyrhythms of ‘Staat Aus Glas’, the skidding delay and offkilter 80s darkside of ‘Escape From Frankfurt’, and the saturated cinematic techno of ‘Nacht An Allen Tangent’.
