Steve Murphy – Mira Electronics [LT056]

Steve Murphy returns to Lobster Theremin for his debut solo album, curdling a molten mixture of metallic tones and stomping rhythms all culled from the electro, new wave, EBM and italo worlds. Cold wave spoken word vocals shimmer, holla and wail from the depths of an 80’s basement studio (Connessione Europa, Digital Fix Today); stomping italo rhythms take off with a flourish and wash, as they’re bound onto the surface of poly synth dreams (Space Train, Mira Electronics); bastardised modular squelches and blips reveal a hidden underground lab (Ray Gun); modem-bleeping electro machine-worx and on-the-run basslines from 2125 (Disappointed, The Truth, Again); the end, when it comes, is a slow play-em-off jam. An italo electro elevator them tune gently carrying us up to a formerly erased dystopian level of this monolithic brutalist cuboid.

Gene Hunt & Steve Murphy – Split Grooves Part 4 EP [WLS008]

Wilson records has Fabio unleashing House Legend Gene Hunt and not so newbie Chiwax and Lobster Theremin veteran, Stevie Murphy for the fourth edition of the ‘not a trilogy anymore’ Split Grooves series. Its the perfect mix to brew an appetite for some dance floor destruction. We have Mr. Gene Hunt taking on the A side with his twisted tracks ‘Get down’ and ‘S and S’. Over to the B side, our cherished friend, Steve Murphy’s groove is anything but relaxed.

Steve Murphy – Relax EP [LT003]

Steve Murphy turns in a rough and raw four-tracker featuring the blazing piano cut ‘Eyes Behind The Door’ knocking knees with deep house/techno banger ‘Relax’ on the A-side. The B-side sees Steve operate on two different levels – ‘Tram’ takes a very Shari Vari-esque drum beat and loads it with a buzzing electro synth-line and shattered hat explosions, while ‘Try It’ plunges the depths of the soul on a seriously trippy deep house excursion.

Durant – The Dove Ultimatum [VVR005]

Vae Victis can’t hide their love and passion for raw house and techno. On this 5th release there is another fine selection of hybrids between styles perfectly expressing their love for genre bending music. Durant exists out of a small collective of producers with main roles for Steve Murphy, Die Roh and Lucretio. The Dove Ultimatum, a 4 tracks ep of punchy analogue electronic music. On the a-side lay General Motors and At Ten, 2 broken beat electro techno tracks a la Drexciya showing the hardest and most experimental side of the project. While on the flip the trio bring things on a housier field, though staying loyal to the a-side vibe by delivering 2 dark and obsessive raw house tracks.

Riviera – SR11 EP [MUSCLE001]

RIVIERA - SR11 EP (Front Cover)

Muscle Records is a label for upfront dirty dance music. All tracks are conceived naturally and recorded on tape, so an elemental and honest approach is required to fully dive into Muscle Records sounds. Riviera is a band formed by a bunch of young talented gritty analogue junkies, most of which has already released on a couple of disrespected labels. The band first jams were recorded on parching tape in a sultry warehoue close to the Brenta’s muddy banks with a noisy dockyard of transistors delights.
