3 Years of Hipodrome with John Heckle

Another year passed imperceptibly and The Hipodrome Of Music blog is still here promoting uncompromising music and artists alike. After having invited some of the heavyweights of the electronic music scene (Mick Wills, Traxx, Intergalactic Gary) this year we are looking to the future.

For this year anniversary we have the great pleasure to introduce to Sibiu and Romania, for the first time, the great talent of John Heckle.

Only 24 years old, John has already made a important name for himself in the electronic music scene. In the past couple of years, John has seen something of a meteoric rise to the forefront of the electronic music scene, with an already expansive discography and enviable international DJ schedule.

Singles, tracks and remixes for Tabernacle, Signals, Skylax and Irish upstart Apartment Records have been similarly celebrated.

His debut album ‘The Second Son‘, released on Mathematics in 2011, won the prestigious Qwartz 8 Discovery Award in Paris. This acts as a publicly voted stamp of approval for his incredible work over the last two years. All these make Johns’ productions one of the freshest sounding material of present day house. Dirty beats, lo-fi gritty melodies with mind crushing energy.

Of course, his career goes back much further than just that. Blowing people away on 3 decks at Alcatraz at the tender age of 15, John caught the eyes of
heroes Regis and Surgeon aka The British Murder Boys, who took one listen to a demo of his music and gave it to RSB records. The track was released in 2006 on vinyl under the moniker ‘Hek’.

John had played and held residencies at clubs such as The Cavern and Rehab event at the famous Lemon Lounge in his home town of Liverpool from the age of 15. Now he is playing regularly across Europe at some of the most highly respected venues and festivals, he has become renowned for his mesmerizing live and DJ sets, showcasing his take on a 707-heavy jacking Chicago style and his love for the heavy, raw analogue sound.

John performs using an assortment of hardware to accompany his ever-varying vinyl selections and full hardware live shows are now also available as part of his repertoire.

You can’t miss his live deck performance in Sibiu, on October 27th @ Zen Garden Lounge.
