Manos Brujas ‎- Sangre De Oro [PNK-DL2]

Manos Brujas is a project by Julian Vasquez, a Colombian artist who draws his inspiration from the lost tribes and shamanism. With his first album Sangre de Oro on our Pinkman Digi Lab series, Manos tells about a legend of a magic totem hidden far in the jungle and a tribe man’s quest to find it, driven by his desire to gain shamanic power. Replete with ritual-like drum beats, rumbling melodies and echoes of animal chatter, the sonic narrative of the album follows the tribe man’s journey, dragging the listener from the remote depths of the jungle to the psychedelic realms of dreams and rituals, until the man realises that the real power was within him. The album is a cinematic and intricate trip made to alters minds.

Mohammad Reza Mortazavi & Burnt Friedman – YEK 2 [NON52]

Mohammad Reza Mortazavi (Tombak) & Burnt Friedman (electronics, synth.) release their second EP “YEK 2”. Equipped with one drum only and laser-pattern–electronics, Mortazavi and Friedman produce delicate, yet archaic, trance–inducing, transnational dance music with… hints of dust and grain… They move hands and faders according to odd cyclical rhythms with incredible accuracy. The extreme dynamic range and rhythmic congruency of drum and electronics merge both, Mortazavi`s and Friedman’s repertoire entirely.

SJ Tequilla + Aaty presents SJTeknobuskers [WRECKS029]

Smooth acid injected edgy house cuts on this new Klasse Wrecks. For the last 3 years SJ Tequilla (Naota Matsuda) and Aaty Matoba have been a regular but hidden fixture in Berlin’s underground music scene. You may have caught them at their regular spot in a dark tunnel next to the sprawling Ostkreuz station in Kreuzberg, lucky to sneak a quick listen before the cops came in and shut things down yet again. Armed only with an electrical generator, a 606, 303 and various dub echo delay units the pair have slowly been refining their Teknobusker project into quite a special thing. Proving that creativity blooms best when using a limited set of tools, the SJ Teknobuskers music is gritty and dark but also retains an important sense of humour. WRECKS029 was recorded between the years 2018-2019 and does a deft job in capturing a flavour of the rhythms, tones and squelches that echoed down the tunnels during Berlin’s endless summers.

VA – DDC02 [DDC02]

The world is shocked by the current COVID-19 situation, especially our scene worldwide. We spent the past few months like this and who knows when it will be back to normal.
So we decided to join this struggle and release this 16-track fundraising compilation in collaboration with old and new producers, who belong to our label across Europe and Hungary. All of us worked and participated in order to support one of the last community spaces in Budapest, called Gólya. With purchasing the V/A, all income goes directly to this place. Gólya is really important in the Budapest scene with its several different community profiles. One of them is a venue, that they operate with a really open-minded attitude, fair deals and welcome various musical genres, like ours. They are still closed, so every kind of funds are a big help for them to survive these weird times.

VA – Ecdisis Vol.3 [FRV033]

Ecdisis Vol 3 is fresh and ready to wreak some havoc. Up first is Vinilette’s rework of Flux of Pink Indians’ “Nothing Is Not Done.” A brood of beats, this rhythmic romp is inspired by the 1986 piece on Uncarved Block. Layers of kick drums, bongos and toms echo and judder as a cold line circles and closes ever tighter. Following we have the head honcho, Juanpablo with his extended edit of Mac Blackout’s “Do The Dance In Your Head”. The intro is given room, adopting a doom disco march, before the fearsome crash of strings. The lyrics, a lurid tale brimming with menace, are sweetened with twirling notes in this grisly stomper. The final attack sequence comes care of Mick Wills with his amazing cut of an unreleased track by Argentina’s great producer NGLY. Dark and looming this distortion streaked encounter will leave bodies and speaker cones raw.

Virgo Four – Do You Know Who You Are? [TX175RED]

Every home should have this record from the 2 of the originators of deep House.  “Do You Know Who You Are?” EP from 1989 is as flawless as it gets, often imitated over the years but never, ever bettered. Every single track on this slab of wax is a classic. Virgo manage to reach right inside & take us somewhere on every cut while maintaining an otherworldly sense of melody & rhythm, some of the playing on this record is incredible & so accomplished, “In A Vision” for example still sounds like it’s beaming right at us from the future while “Take Me Higher” carries it’s stately, Reggae-like vibe along smoothly while retaining enough bounce to keep the floor locked in.

Pilgrims Of The Mind – Elsewhere: Further Excursions (1994-1995) [EVRE009]

Further excursions of one of the most dedicated producers of Vancouver in the early 90s: Pilgrims Of The Mind. Three tracks coming out of the sweet sonic brew that was cooking on the West Coast at the time: elements of techno, ethno, downtempo and general smoked-out trippyness abound.

VA – Pyramid Pieces 1: Modal & Eco Jazz From Australia 1969-1979 [PYR01]

Borrowing its title from an infamous Australian jazz composition, Pyramid Pieces is a long overdue compilation which documents a period of Australian modern jazz that flourished during the late 1960s and 70s. A brief yet vital survey which examines an isolated yet thriving vibrant scene that was largely unheard outside of its own country. Whilst many local musicians found success abroad in the UK or the USA, those that remained found limited support for jazz from the commercially-minded mainstream music industry, thus an empowered independent movement was born, represented by labels such as Jazznote and Horst Liepolt’s 44 Records. This compilation is a showcase of this period and the various forms of modern jazz indicative of the scene, from modal and deep spiritual jazz through to avant-jazz film soundtracks and the unique sub-genre ‘Eco Jazz’ (a distinctive style which drew vivid inspiration from Australia’s natural environment). Featuring essential tracks from celebrated Australian jazz icons such as John Sangster and Alan Lee, the collection also asserts the importance of other often overlooked groups including Jazz Co/op and The Brian Brown Quintet amongst others. Pyramid Pieces is the first entry in a new series that will explore the largely unheard yet incredible sound of Australian modernist Jazz.

Emotive Response – Emotions ’95 [AAL011]

Part 1 of a Trilogy inspired by Belgium Dance Music from early/mid 1990s till early 2000. Produced by Thomas Blanckaer aka Innershades under his new alter Ego ‘Emotive Response’. Belgium Trance was at its commercial peak during those years and while Dj’s showcased their skills on national television (TMF!), a new group of producers stood up injecting the lively scene with big tunes. The often dramatic and dark melodies that defined their typical sound can be found again in the four club bangers collected on this first EP. All containing that energetic and uplifting sound from those days, but with a an own twist from the man Innershades.
