Delsin kicks off 2015 with Micronism’s Steps to Recovery EP. Originally released on Nurture records in 1999, the EP, which comes in black and limited coloured vinyl, is a bonafide deep house classic from the short live career of New Zealander Denver McCarthy. ‘Engaging Causeless Mercy’ is a contemplative, atmospheric affair with soft drums and celestial pads that could roll and roll forever and you’d never get tired. ‘The Quiet Mind’ is just as deep, but the spiralling pads and rippling melodies here are more colourful and charming. Both tracks are hugely spacious, luxurious affairs whilst ‘Constructing Space’ on the flip is a more stripped back and humid number that is more enclosed and oppressive for cosy back room spaces. Finally, the title track is a playful, elastic house track with heartwarming hooks and pinging drums.

On the flip side “Nascent” starts gloomy and uncompromising before it builds up slowly until Jaures’ rusty trademark synths are revealed. A solid piece of wax with different weapons including already known ClekClekBoom producers and extended family. For this first volume, French Fries teams up with NSDOS on a hypnotic jam, bringing Chicago’s percussive legacy in a 90’s NYC ballroom. Then we got Aleqs Notal going deep with a new batch of his lunar material where tripping synths meet spaced out hi-hats. On the flip Jean Nipon provides his drummer background to display some infectious rhythms colliding with a shuffling syncopated bass, while Barbara Ford takes us through a heavy mesmerizing acid jam tunnel. Overall a deep and yet club-material experience representing perfectly what ClekClekBoom has to offer today.

Levon Vincent chose to announce the release of his long-await debut album by drip-feeding information on social media. The subsequent meltdown among the online techno community may have been amusing to watch, but is testament to the Berlin-based New Yorker’s impact over the last 10 years. Typically, concrete info has remained thin on the ground aside from the fact it stretches across some four slabs of vinyl and features a homage to Levon’s cat Mona. Just before the physical copies were due for release, Vincent elected to give out the 11 track LP digitally for free so it’s highly likely you know how it sounds already. This album is the conclusion of research conducted on theories arguing for us living in a holographic universe. The songs included are parts of a whole that moves the listener towards the idea of understanding music as a universal language that hides within a dimensional leap leading to other universes. Uniting the steely dance floor focus of Tony Scott and Sabatini’s immersive, dub-soaked textures was a masterstroke on Motoguzzi’s part. It’s no surprise then that both versions of “Multiplo” are radically different, or that they both stamp each producer’s unique vision of techno. Edit Select’s take is a heavy affair that never veers into senselessly banging sounds. Instead, he lays down a steely rhythm, hissing percussion and waves of dub-soaked effects. On Sabatini’s version, the dub influence isn’t far away, but comes to the surface in a different manner. Lithe back beats act as the backdrop for multi-layered chords and bleeps that gradually emerge from the depths of Sabatini’s understated but powerful arrangement.
