The two tracks here explore Padice’s deeper side, but it all still feels vintage in origin, with “Looking To The Sky”, in particularly, coming blessed with the sort of dreamy warmth and undulating low-end shuffle. “Summer Season” is a little brighter and breezier, with twinkling electronics, cheery melodies and drawn-out chords riding a synth bass-heavy late ’80s deep house groove.

Rio Padice makes a return to Hudd Traxx with a sublime assortment of deep grooved gems in the shape of ‘A Vison Of A Dream’ EP. The first track ‘Guabonito’ sets the tone with a selection of spacey synths and a BPM that teeters just on the right side of chilled with a riff that sounds just like sunshine. Following it ‘Sunset on Bolsena Lake’ maintains the tempo on the lower side of the scale but with a hook-y bassline that will ensure all eyes are down on the dancefloor. ‘The Pains of Sleep’ then changes pace, bringing you back into club-stomp territory yet still maintaining that swirling deepness we all know and love at Hudd Traxx…finally to round things off there are trippy grooves and thumping beats in the form of ‘Xanadu’.

Having slowly plugged away at the underground scene for many years now, Rio Padice seems to be settling into his own sound now, and it’s right at home on Rawax. There’s a brittle quality to the pumping drums that Padice programmes, as if they might shatter at any given moment. Meanwhile the vibes that surround these skeletal rhythms range from the mellow keys of “Track 1” through to the red-lined acid squelch of “Track 2”. With everything lovingly fed through an aging process to give it a grainy quality, you can’t deny that the man has worked hard to make his tracks raw.

Rio Padice is back with some assured groovers for Housewax. On the Moon Phases EP the ghost of deep Chicago house looms heavy, not least in the opening track. It’s deliberately naive, easy-going music perfectly pitched to worm its way into a warm-up scenario, but with enough grit in the production to avoid the trap of background fodder. The B-Side is a touch wilder, as the syncopation of “Track 3” does damage with a sumptuous square wave bass while “Track 4” bumps on a nasty garage shuffle.

On the flip we venture into even deeper territory for the ethereal ‘Tool 3’, and Padice rounds things off in spectacular style with the explosive ‘Deathfloor.’
