Group Modular breaks the 3-year silence and launches a new series of 7inch releases, powered by Confused Machines and Delights labels. The first 45 features two familiar tunes, previously available only on short-run (and immediately sold-out) lathe-cut releases.
After a long lockdown break, Delights label returns with a 7inch debut by Sapria – a spontaneous meeting of creative minds from Berlin and Jerusalem: Sun Ra Bullock (X.A. Cute/Edelfaul Records) and Markey Funk (Group Modular/Delights) – on keys, Itai Anker (Hynom/Andarta/Raash Records) – on bass, and Yadin Katz (The Turbans/YMKA) – on drums. Captured in their only studio session back in late 2018 – and finalized by Markey Funk two years later, the collective’s first release is an edgy drum-heavy horror-funk double-sider, largely inspired by classic late 70’s video nasties.
Delights label is getting back on its way-out tracks with a new 45. Two cinematic funk cuts, recorded shortly before the COVID-19 lockdown by Markey Funk and Shuzin under a new moniker – SimfOnyx: slow and haunting “Magenta Skyline” on the A-side, backed by heavy uptempo slasher chase theme “The Unresolved” on the flip.
West London’s Paul Osborne is joined again by Shuzin behind the drum kit and Markey Funk on additional keys and production to craft two sides of psych-driven cinematic funk. Inspired by European folk horror, baroque pop and classic Gainsbourg/Vannier works, the new 7inch offers an early peek into Project Gemini’s future debut LP ”The Children of Scorpio”.
Project Gemini is the brainchild of West London-based musician, producer and music journalist Paul Osborne. It makes its debut on Delights with a spooky library-influenced psych-funk double-sider, recorded by Osborne at his home studio, Gardens End, with contributions from the prolific Haifa-based producer Shuzin on drums, and the label’s main man Markey Funk on lead keys and production duties. With its otherworldly electronics, fuzz guitars, sinister cinematic groove and sharp funky drums, the new 7inch is ticking all the boxes that define the Delights label’s distinctive aesthetic.
