From the wide-ranging livestream sets he does from his basement to the sprawling hip hop and house albums he does for Moodymann’s Mahogany via disco-laced house anthems like ‘New 4 U’, Andres always unites this music with a unique sense of groove and emotion. That is still true now as he steps out on GT Flips with a bunch of electro-leaning cuts that are classy yet primed and ready to ignite any party. Track 2 is a quick and punch one with ghetto undercurrents and jazzy keys, Track 4 is an excellent ass-wiggler with expertly deployed vocal hooks and Track 3 is a stripped-back bumper with a feel-good vibe.
Andrés – GTFlip313-001 [GTFLIP313-001]
Detroit mainstay and masterful hip hop and deep house fusionist Andres is back with not one but two new EPs. For this first one, he brings some silky electro rhythms to his signature sound but doesn’t forgo that irresistible sense of r&b lushness he is known for. Track 1 brings a heart-aching vocal sample to quick beats and pristine snares, Track 2 has skittish rhythms topped with snapping snares and another classic, well-worked sample, then Track 3 takes off to the cosmos on ice-cold electro rhythms topped with plaintive chords. There is a hint of acid squelchy to Track 4 but it still somehow sounds very much like Andres.
Howard Thomas – Skin Breaker LP [SS100]
Theo Parrish’s venerated Sound Signature label hits the notable milestone of 100 releases with this new double album, Skin Breaker, from Howard Thomas. ”The inspiration for ‘Skin Breaker’ comes from my early years of watching sci-fi films. Howard has always been fascinated by them . As a huge fan of 80s beat tracks and 80s sci-fi, Howard aimed to blend those influences into this project. This project is a tribute to the sounds and styles that have inspired him.”
The Vision – Spectral Nomad [M025R]
As The Vision, Robert Hood provided Detroit techno a pinnacle of the artform. It may be justifiably best known for the lip-bitingly strong minimalist transport of Detroit: One Circle with its sparing central refrain “Detroit” and spine-playing riffage, or for the killer Explain The Style variant, but for us the EP’s shortest and freakiest number Modern And Ancient is also one of its strongest, a mad, half-stepping slice of Afro-futurist electro encryption that still blows our mind today.
Jeff Mills – The Eyewitness LP [AX117]
‘The Eyewitness’ reveals a habitual pattern in the way it symbolizes a mirror reflection of mankind in our most vulnerable moments. The new album of Jeff Mills and it is composed from the perspective of an unknowingly complicit bystander and it is at the very least, psychologically pathological in nature. What this release is essentially proposing is an admission to the diagnosis that no one is immune to shock and trauma. Not the accuser or the accused. And this abnormality s culturally and generally transmittable – handed down and passed over to one another disguised as righteous theatre. As an artist, what Mills is notoriously known for is the perspectives and paths he chooses to approach hefty, complex, and sometimes, awkward subjects. The best way to recognize the narratives of his mostrecent album works such as “The Clairvoyant”, an eerie transcending album that plays through like a Seance for creating a bridge to reach another dimension or “Mind Power Mind Control”, a cautionary warning about the consequences of supporting deceit, mind control and mass mental persuasion is to start by first taking a moment to look at yourself in a mirror. He’s suggesting sound as a reflection and what we might be able to see in ourselves. Proposing that we might be the problem and a solution. In the same vicinity of his recent solo albums, the direction, scope or target of The Eyewitness is first about us, then about it.
Los Hermanos – Remember Detroit [GM-03]
Rawax presents the 3rd release on Rawax Motor City series by Gerald Mitchell under his Los Hermanos alias. “Remember Detroit” is a beautiful piece of Music which makes you feel the pulse of this City.
Dopplereffekt – Gesamtkunstwerk LP [C#CC005LP]
Originally released as three stunning 12inches on Dataphysix records in the mid ‘90s, the LP edition of ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’ on Clone Classic Cuts is available again after being out of print for years – with new artwork for 2024. Including iconic tracks like ‘Scientist’, ‘Pornoactress’, ‘Sterilization’, ‘Rocket Scientist’, ‘Cellular Phone’ and ‘Speak & Spell’. ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’ is almost as important for the techno generation as Kraftwerk’s ‘Computerworld’ and ‘Autobahn’ were for many in the ‘70s.

Orlando Voorn – The Master 2 LP [CONTRA007]
Contrafact welcomes back Dutch icon and studio wizard, Orlando Voorn, who brings a fresh new sound with his second contribution to the label – a double vinyl album entitled ‘The Master 2’. Millsart – X-Ray Zulu [AX116]
The Axis Expressionist Series continues in 2024. For Part 04 „X-Rax Zulu“ Jeff Mills went into the studio and created “Just Like A (Vernacular Objects)”, a new mix of „Vernacular Objects“ (previously released 2020 only in digital as “Every Dog Has Its Day. Vol. 13”) and produced three new tracks exclusively for this vinyl edition.
Model 500 – Classics LP [MLP093]
Juan Atkin’s masterpiece compilation, the blueprint of Techno albums…. the 1993 Model 500 ‘Classics’ compilation with some of Juan Atkins’ biggest early Metroplex milestones, with some of them in exclusive remixed versions. 3 decades later Metroplex is re-releasing this collection of hugely influential tracks for a new generation to play from fresh and clean vinyl!. Just like the recent 12″ reissue series, this album has been fully remastered with all the care and attention to detail you can imagine. Tracks like ,,No UFOs”, ,,The Chase”, ,,Techno Music”, ,,Night Drive (Time, Space, Transmat)” or ,,Off To Battle” are basically techno ground zero, with the electro influence of mid-80s to late-80s Juan Atkins productions still omnipresent. 30 years on since its original release on R&S records, ‘Classics’ is still as gritty and timeless a statement as ever.
Robert Hood & Femi Kuti – Variations LP [MPM045]
Robert Hood’s techno and Femi Kuti’s Afrobeat intertwine in a new form where jazz-grooves reign supreme.
