Spectrum Spools present the debut album by Brooklyn’s minimal synth trio Forma. This is a self-styled tribute – and testament – to the enduring power of kosmische. Sumptuously melodic, with flights of improvisational fancy nicely anchored by taut, repetitive drum structures, it’s hard not to fall in love with this record. What really distinguishes Forma from the million devotees of German electronic music is their bold and often unorthodox use of rhythm, at times tending towards metronomic Kraftwerkian synth-pop, at others towards something even more viscous and otherworldly. kraut-influenced analogue electronics.

The Opiates – Rainy Days And Remixes EP [DAREC1104]

Track artwork

The Opiates is the latest project from the “queen of electronic soul” Billie Ray Martin, together with Norwegian musician Robert Solheim. This is the taster of remixes and first single “Rainy Days and Saturdays”, from the forthcoming album ‘Hollywood Under the Knife’. Remixes by Hercules and Love Affair’s Kim Ann Foxman on ” Jalousies and Jealousies”, as well as all-time heroes Chris and Cosey of Throbbing Gristle on “Anatomy of a Plastic Girl”. The XHK Mix of  “Silent Comes The Nighttime (Again)”, with its hard Dubstep flavour completes the picture and gives the song a completely new voice and vibe.

Gavin Russom – Night Sky [DFA2289]

DFA Records presents “Night Sky”, a track that grows and grown into an 13 minutes odyssey. The buzzy bottom end enters and expands before Russom’s vocals – alleyway dark and mysterious – make their way in. The song dips and dives, going from barebones synthesizers resting on organic percussion to explosive vocal choruses. The end reunites nearly every sound that made a previous appearance in an ensemble of ecstatic rhythms and noise. Mutant Beat Dance aka Beau Wanzer & Melvin Oliphant III, undo the original and transform it. There are so many new elements to be found here – a thick bassline, shuffling beat, wiry electro etchings, eerie washes of synths that swell unexpectedly and unannounced – it all makes for a collection of sounds that, thankfully, are head swimming in their unique and wonderful unpredictability.

IN FLAGRANTI - Worse For Wear (Front Cover)

Predictably jacked to the brim full of their signature no-gristle, no-glory aesthetic, In Flagranti introduces their new album, Worse for Wear. In Flagranti’s Sasa Crnobrnja and Alex Gloor have left behind their vintage porn-chic sensibilities and instead turn to yesterday’s trashed goods for inspiration.

RVDS – Moments [ITS005]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS415520-01A-MED.jpg

This is the first full-length album on the It’s label for Germany’s Richard von der Schulenburg aka RVDS. It’s deep, acid, fragile, party, lonely, and special. Inspired by classic deep and acid house, old instruments such as the TR-808, Roland JP-6, Wurlitzer E-Piano and some others are combined with new accents, but always with a special bent towards Detroit music.
