Here he lands somewhere in Chicago WBMX zone or at least where the classic early house radio station would be at now. Channeling deep on the Italo slapper vibes, dark like when you get too deep in the ocean or like too far above the Planet’s surface, heavy spaced out new wavey, tropical moon flares.
Star Creature continuing it’s pursuit of bold LP’s, this time teaming up with Italian disco don, Giovanni Damico. With recent major dance floor releases on Lumberjacks In Hell & Kalakuta Soul, Damico shifts gears to his Italian roots to give us a modern funk twist on Italo & space time boogie.
Italian producer Giovanni Damico (otherwise known as G-Machine or Ron Juan) has been busting out funkified gems for more than 10 years now, and his mighty back catalogue includes plenty of turns on Lumberjacks In Hell. He returns to the label with four crisp and refined slices of boogie business that span a range of tempos to give you plenty of party tackle for any situation. “The Sound Of Revolution” is a natural choice for the A1, dripping with cosmic synth flexes and an irresistible groove, while the snappily titled “Italians In A Line” brings a sweet strain of upfront robo-disco to the table.
Channeling Soul, DiscoFunk and old school House vibes straight from Fly By Night Music’s own boss Lorenzo, White Rabbit Recordings’ head Giovanni Damico and label mainstays Riccio and Mayo Soulomon, we have something for everyone.
Eight tracks blend the boundaries between original productions, illicit remixes and straight re-edits. There’s a celebratory, life-affirming feel throughout, from the rubbery bass, D-Train synths and rolling house grooves of Giovanni Damico’s ”The Break Down”, to the bluesy deep house brilliance of Borrowed Identity’s ”Queens Bridge”. Highlights are plentiful elsewhere, too, from the hustlin’ electrofunk-meets-disco of Vogel’s own ”Come On”, to the killer synth solos and fuzzy bits of Tim Jules’ thrilling ”Slap Beat”.
Turning back the clock, before fast forwarding it, comes Giovanni Damico as G-Machine. A new virtuoso of space boogie. Buckle up, destination: Primo Contatto. Across eight tracks the Italian astronaut traverses the sounds of the cosmos. Warbling reverberations introduce “Flying Objects”, with thick bands of synthesizer throbbing in its veins. The ultra slick “Contact” follows. Electrofunk bars float beneath stratospheric synth. Styles co-mingle. Patrick Cowley melts with Afrika Bambaataa. Disco Magic meets Tommy Boy. An overarching groove permeates the album, a heady funk that courses through tracks like “Body on the Ground” and “Transmission”. The moon based mirrorball sounds flex and flow, “It’s A Shame” cutting floors with sleek vocoders and addictive analogue riches. If you’re waiting for re-entry think again, there is no return ticket. G-Machine will only be taking passengers further and further on his cosmic odyssey with tracks like “In My Arms” and “Boogie Down”. Buck Rogers in the 25th century breakdowns and rollerskate goodness from needle drop to the run-out.
Bitter Moon has criss-crossed Europe to gather a trio of heavy House hitters for Lunes De Fiel Vol. 2. Creme Organization prodigy Innershades gets the show on the road with the synth slamming groove of “Moments of Euphoria”. New Beat memories bounce alongside rumbling rhythms in track guaranteed to ignite speakers. Next stop is Germany with Snuff Crew and “Your Hands”. The Jack experts fillet their trademark raw edges for a smooth and soulful piece of late night Chitown. Smoke curls around chords, claps are softened as samples turn in a twilight haze. The final destination, Italy, is bathed in the 303 sunshine of “#Acid”. The White Rabbit Recordings founder uses the building blocks of Chicago to produce a fluid floor filler. Cymbals, cow-bells, toms and snares are soaked in a devilish brew of Acid. Bohemian body jerk to a 4/4 beat to bring down the curtain on this latest instalment of Lunes De Fiel.
