Daniel Holt – After The Deluge LP [BLF1C002]

Daniel Holt is one of the most prolific and talented producers out there right now, with a slew of releases on labels like Frigio, L.I.E.S., Mechatronica or Aperitif de la Mort. He also runs his own labels Atrophy Records and Ardetha Records out of his Tennessee homeland. The Black Lodge presents a full 10 track cassette album of all new and original material from Daniel that is suited for both deep listening and dancefloor mayhem. “After the Deluge” is an emotional. mythical, and spiritual journey into one of the many extradimensional portals of The Black Lodge and the deeper darker recesses of the mind – a journey of pitfalls, wonder, victories, ecstasy, losses, revelation, death, rebirth and release. Join us as we travels to parts unknown. The cassette includes full dj mix “Before the Deluge” on other side.

The Ratlife boss brings the noise with a cluster of hardwired dancefloor bombs. ‘Broken Glass Everywhere’ with broken snares ricochet off gutter-clank, clearing a path through shattered electronics and electro-murk. ‘Reject’ gears up for a dawn raid, inciting an illicit beat over janked-up loner funk, stalking empty streets for scraps. ‘Harder Faster Slower’ parades onto the B-side like a half-crazed maniacal grind show. Mardi gras drum rolls rattle over clown metal, drilled by chopped vox stabs ’n screwed hysterics. ‘Ghostride’ brings the reject party to a close, pointing a spectral finger to the exit before lending a sleazy hand for one last late-night runaround.

D’Marc Cantu – La Frontera [TKG013]

Tuskegee Music is back with more essential music, this time from venerated American producer D’Marc Cantu. He’s serving up raw-edged, uncompromising sounds as usual. Opener ‘Beat The Move’ is an urgent, high tech piece of slick and supple acid house with 303 undulations, dark vocal loops and the sort of hammering drums that get the club locked right in. The sublime ‘In The Forest’ is a tripped out bit of restless electro with skittish hits and rueful pads that gets right to your heart. Last of all is the militant, marching ‘A Narrow Connection’ which closes things out with crisp kicks and scintillating sheet metal drums that straighten your back and get you stomping.
