Simoncino – Perugia EP [LVNO16]

Over the course of their last two release, Love Notes has brought back the two artists that made their first release such an instant classic; first, Casey Tucker, and now; Simoncino, whose remix of Tucker’s Affirmative Action helped to launch Love Notes onto our collective radar. Simoncino herein does what he does oh-so-well, his unwavering nod (and maybe even slight obsession) to that which came before him permeating all three tracks here. Love Note impressively shows no signs of slowing down; three years after their inception, Nathaniel Jat’s imprint is closing in quickly on the 20 release milestone without even a momentary dip in quality.

Casey Tucker – Alternative Faction [LVNO15]

Casey Tucker is up to bat once again for Love Notes from Brooklyn. This time, though, it’s a more complete three track artist EP on offer. The music, of course, encapsulates everything that’s great about Casey’s sound: the lush pads, the crispy percussion, the emotional strings, and the dance-floor destroying basslines. Alternative Faction utilizes one such dancefloor destroying bassline to create a real fist pumping moment in the title track; That Time of Year uses a wriggly acid synth line over the aforementioned emotional strings, and to great effect; and New Mission ends the EP in a unwavering fashion; with heartstring-tugging, terk jerking, emotional pads over an acid line in signature Casey Tucker fashion.

Perseus Traxx – More Songs About Girls [LVNO011]

A great pairing here as the rugged basslines, emotional melodies, and vintage percussion of Perseus Traxx seem right at home on the Love Notes stabel, who seem to be taking a quick break from showcasing artists from their homebase of Brooklyn, as they have on their last 4 records. More Songs About Girls is a cohesive EP of 4 original tracks and neither fans of this artist nor fans of this label will be disappointed.

Tape_Hiss – Cognitive Dissonance [LVNO010]

For a relatively new artist to release a double 12″ with zero filler on it is most impressive indeed, and that’s just what tape_hiss has done here on this, the 10th Love Note from Brooklyn. The first disc contains the EP’s deeper material, with tracks like Nasty Boy and Cognitive Dissonance getting filled to the brim with dark, foreboding basslines and anxious, dystopian melodies. Disc 2 finds tape_hiss flexing his muscles a bit more and going outside of what we’ve heard him do thus far; ie the rugged breakbeat funk of No Neck and Bad as Hell and the arpeggiated thunder and volatile percussion of Barely Trippin’.

Tape_Hiss – Love Is A Dog From Hell [LVNO05]

Love Notes from Brooklyn is proud to present a brand new and promising young American artist in the form of tape_hiss. These three moody and emotive tracks fit in perfectly with the label sound Love Notes has been developing over their last few release. The Panic in Needle Park, the clear standout track, begins the EP with gloomy synth washes at a chugging, pitched down speed. That track is then ably reworked by fellow Brooklynite, Willie Burns, of LIES and WT Records, who breaks the beat up for a stunted and unique reinterpretation. On the flip, Love is a Dog From Hell brings a little acid to the proceedings, and Traces to Nowhere closes it out on consitantly dark and moody note.

Anaxander – A Question About You [LVNO004]

Anaxander, contributes two beautiful pieces and has one of them reworked by Amir Alexander. Lost My Soul (in Yours) is twisted little number, with dual synth riffs echoing off each other for maximum effect. A Question About You uses jazzy chords and flutes over its undeniable bassline to retain some soulful flavoring, but Amir strips all of that away on his interpretation, preffering instead to let the acid and the warehouse vibes have their way, taking things right into a 6am rave nightmare.

Casey Tucker – Affirmative Action [LVNO001]
