Up next on Phonica White is Brooklyn based artist Justin Cudmore. ‘Twisted Love’ gets straight to the point, with firm and strong percussion joined to a fickle acid bass line. In addition to this, Justin weaves in some House-flavoured vocals to keep you hooked until the end of the track. A certified floor-filler of a track. On the flip is ‘About to Burst’, a track that starts with a powerful kick drum and grows with new emerging elements; punchy hi-hats coming and going in key moments and a simple keyboard arpeggio that added to an Acid bass line catches you instantly.

Massiande – Freedom EP [PHONICAWHITE016]
Phonica’s white label series returns with a real deep house excursion by Chilean producer Massiande in the form of his ‘Freedom EP’. The title track ‘Freedom’ launches the EP attempts to recreate an aural scenery of flying exploration centred on a spacey synth line and an almost Detroit techno bassline. ‘Be With Me’ starts with an almost Mr Fingers-esque groove before melodic elements take over.’Straight’ is more of a straight-up dancefloor track with obvious elements from US house from the 90s, clipped Chandler-esque beats, nagging stabs and a vocal sample ‘Gonna take you to another land, where there is no race’, going straight to a place where you can allow yourself to be free on the dancefloor. Many ’90s U.S. American House and Garage influences go through this track, which brings us to the final track, the epic ‘Ode To A Tortured Soul’. Deeply melancholic with an end-of-night feel with its own flute solo, channelling Frankie Knuckles ‘The Whistle Song’ or Flow’s Bottom Line classic ‘ Another Time’.
STL – Amplified Bleep Package EP [PHONICAWHITE014]
STL has been a firm favourite of Phonica Records ever since his first releases surfaced in the early 2000s. Although he is highly revered within the underground scene, he’s always kept a low profile and consistently pursued his own blend of boundary pushing abstract and experimental House & Techno. The two tracks on ‘The Amplified Bleep Package’ EP marks his first contribution to Phonica’s white label series.
Iori – PHONICAWHITE007 [PHONICAWHITE007]
Phonica welcomes back Iori for its 7th Phonica White release. Vril and Raimo offering remixes of previous Iori tracks. Occupying the whole of the a-side, “Wave” is Iori at his best; just under nine minutes of no nonsense techno. Raw and dark material built around a strong syncopated beat, layered trippy flourishes and a hypnotic groove that sucks you in until the last bar. On the b-side are Vril and Raimo remakes.
Luv Jam – Mature Oak [PHONICAWHITE004]
The fourth installment of the limited Phonica Whites series, pairing the production talents of Luv Jam aka Andy Cole with the first ever official remix by the phenomenon that is Cottam.
Iori – Spaciotemporal [PHONICAWHITE003 ]
Phonica Records’ limited offshoot returns with a second 12” from the man that kickstarted the label, Iori. The release comes with a remix from Skudge.
Iori – Galaxy / Urge [PhonicaWhite001]

The first release on Phonica White Limited Series is from Okinawa’s Iori. This young producer’s impressive work ranges from woozy ambient electronics to full-on club tracks; the common thread is a highly developed sense of texture and arrangement. A-side “Galaxy” is simply lean, expertly crafted techno, led by a rolling bassline and crisp hi-hats, with hypnotic melody patterns skittering off the surface. It’s a trippy but accessible heads-down affair that has the depth and the bite to do damage at peak-time and in the after-hours alike. “Urge” on the flipside is an even deeper, sub-heavy cut, an insistent, club-friendly groove swathed in burbling synth arpeggios and FX. Despite being stripped-back, the sound design and sheer warmth of the production is incredible; the track really breathes.
This is a two-tracker of ultra-effective dancefloor material that will appeal to fans of Basic Channel, Ostgut-Ton, Sahko, Sleeparchive and other purveyors of bassy, surgically-focused techno.
