Holic Trax serves up its fifth release from none other than Detroit music making machine Rick Wade of Harmonie Park and Moods & Grooves association. His Hard Full EP opens with the title track, Hard Full. Sounding like a classic Wade cut right from the off, squelchy drums turn over and over to lock you in place before typically elegant string samples sweep up through the mix and really set it off. ‘Deep Subliminal’ kicks that bit harder and firmer with splashing claps and a gentle tumble of toms and congas that imbue the track with a tropical tribalism. The last track is Pyro Dynamics with its nagging bass synth line, dreamy sunny day melodies and locked in place, heavyweight drums

Detroit’s original underground groove-maker comes on board with a 4-track package of goodies. Mr. Wade brings back the deep and soulful vibes of his famous ‘night series’ with the Night Addiction ep. The A-side title track kicks off with dark keys winding through a thumping bassline and sultry horns, while Enter Dawn plunges deep into an ocean of warm pads and hypnotic bass. Flip over to the B-side for the obscure sounds of Hold Youth’s modern rework of Night Addiction, plus S3A’s disco-house interpretation, full of funky sampling, that will surely have hands up in the air.

Sliding on over to Hizou Deep Rooted, prime purveyor of all things deep and alluring Rick Wade might seem a little misleading with his new EP entitled Detroit Fury. As is evident from the man’s back catalogue, there’s not a lot that’s furious about the Wade sound and it’s here in abundance, with finely balanced drums, moody chords and that healthy dollop of disco velour to make sure everything moves properly. “Heavy” is a particular dream with its expertly wielded keys and lackadaisical tone, while the expressive bass line on “Gambit” will be inspiring ‘hurt-so-good’ faces everywhere.

This first release for the Artful Division imprint takes in two original cut from Rick Wade and remixes

Detroit don Rick Wade hits us off with another killer on Dockside. 2 tracks deep “Two The Hard Way” bristles with low down dirty Detroit moodiness & more than a hint of Jazz, keeping the soul present while packing enough punch to keep the heads down & dancing.

We can only guess of who’s behind the second installment of the Midnight Hours 12″ – we only retrospectively found out that Rick Wade, Nick Holder & Scott Ferguson we’re all involved in the first one. The aural clues are quite promising… Upbeat and occasionally jazzy house with a strong whiff of Detroit about it.
