Chicago institution Smart Bar launched a new record label with curators The Black Madonna and Argot/Tasteful Nudes boss Steve Mizek, naming it Northside ’82 after the neighborhood and year the club was founded in. The inaugural release comes from Resident Smart Bar DJ Ike Release who sources inspiration from early Midwestern house music for his Dance Equations EP.
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
But down at the Smartbar in Chicago, Traxx and fellow friends DVS1 and Tevo Howard stirred up all creatures to gather in song and dance.
As a lasting memory of the night we present this new podcast from Nation, a recording of the multiple facettes of Traxx’ sound, spanning decades of musical knowledge, encompassing musical compositions of all genres and all trades to create a unique sonic consciousness that we call Jakbeat!
Have a Merry Xmas everyone, and a Happy New Year!’
This special edition of the Nation Podcast is dedicated to the sound of Medusas, the Music Box and Beyond, recorded on the 31st of July live at Smartbar. Naughty Wood, who made his first contributions as a vocalists on various tracks, gives us a sneak peek at his deck-skills when he opened the night. 50 Minutes of old, as well as modern interpretations of Disco, Jak and House.
Move your feet!
As we dance our way further into the night, Hieroglyphic Being creeps up behind the decks to give us a treat of his editing skills.
The mysterious alien lifeform known to man also as Jamal Moss unleashes previously unreleased edit material into the wild, and as we try to comprehend the sound he takes us on the next journey. It’s a wild water rafting trip shaking your body to the core.
Welcome to the Pleasuredome!
Who better than Traxx could close a night as furious as Nation Mathematics?
Mixing his way through a blazing session, Traxx marks genres from Italo Disco to Jakbeat to Beattrack Edits, Mutant Disco, Industrial and all the way back, making drawers and categories obsolete once again.
