Ike Release – Prophecies EP [EPISODES009]

Compression and expansion, focus and surrender, tension and release – the elusive state of balance is less of an inert, perfect condition than it is an interaction or moderation over time between polarized points. Rarely is it defined nor clearly prescribed. Through careful examination of the factors and conditions involved can a possible pathway be uncovered, in any particular scenario. The attached transmission is not a declaration of balance, nor a prescription towards it. But rather, it is like a snapshot captured of an object in motion.

Ike Release – Geospatial EP [MSN026]

It’s Ike Velez aka Ike Release on the jack attack: three super heavy house bombs that have been shutting down our dance for a minute. Chicago born and raised but now living in New York, this is Ike’s first official release for The Mister (though we did put his amazing tune ‘Phazzled’ on our Weekends and Beginnings mix and sampler a couple summers ago).

Ike Release – Tungstan EP [FSS003]

Ike is no stranger to Finale Sessions at all with his release under the guise Innerspace Halflife with fellow producer Hakim Murphy. This time he flies solo under his real name Ike Release. The first cut called “Tangerines M” it takes you for a ride with its rawness and it’s thick pads and morphing keys and its wicked bassline . Track two called “Tungstun M” is another floor stomper with this one with its filtered pads and in and out synths just drooling with rawness.

Ike Release – Watercolors EP [EPISODES007]

The return of the Windy City’s Ike Release to the tougher than solid Episodes label. Mr.Ike Velez makes his appearance heard quickly and loudly from the first bass drum of “Apollo3”, an all-out dancefloor winner with a distinctive US edge, sci-fi sonics and gorgeous hardware tweaks. “Guzzle” is more soulful and chord-heavy, while “Socialite” takes a dusty drum programme and chucks it over a deep house vibe, and title track “Watercolours” wins the beauty show thanks to its pounding beat and majestic waves of synths.

Ike Release – Noir [MOSLP003]

Debut solo full length from Chicagos Ike Release. Ike is an accomplished solo producer as well as being one half of acclaimed duo Innerspace Halflife with Hakim Murphy, and has a long and fruitful relationship with MOS Recordings. For the last five years or so, Ike has been releasing a mind-expanding brand of analogue rich music that continues in his native Chicago’s fine traditions without resting on the usual tired tropes. Labels like MOS, Machining Dreams and his own Episodes have released it to date and now this full length, Noir, comes as a fully formed artistic statement that lays out his sound in all its glory.

Ike Release – Dream Sequencer EP [MOSDEEP015]

Following on from his increasingly essential work as Innerspace Halflife, Ike Release steps out on his own for a new three tracker on MOS Deep that finds the Chicago producer in a bullish mood. Opener ‘Cosmic Supreme’ is a moody march across the surface of a planet far from here – typically raw, bobbling drums set the tone as a frazzled and drawn out synth line winds right through its core from start to finish. ‘Spells’ is backlit with an ethereal synthy glow as another thick analogue line takes the main focus of the track, all the while as nebulous percussion floats about like a cloud of dust in the background. Finally, ‘Westview’ is a little more propulsive, driven as it is by a lashing, rubberised bassline that sprays about freely, contained only by the itchy and more regimented hi-hats that slice up and down around it. Despite there being a sonic denseness to all three tracks here, a certain emotional gravitas always lurks with in: be it one of introspection or reflection, they are difficult to ignore.

The no. 10 materializing as an Ike Release 12″ called Chasing Quasars EP on Machining Dreams. The five track project goes backward while looking forward as Ike presents a classic sound using contemporary principles. The sound of this vinyl is quite unique as it maintains its hard edginess yet very emotive and analog. Hakim Murphy comes with the remixe.

@playlist artwork

New Chicago label with some lovely tracks going somewhere between traditional Chicago house, Detroit techno and finer club tracks.  3 tracks of foggy, saturated house hinting only slightly to the past while remaining firmly in the present. Comes with a stripped to the bone remix by Hakim Murphy.
