The Inertia sub-arm of Dutch label Delsin is back. Inertia-5 introduces Discrete Circuit with a fierce three track EP. Connecting Berlin with Detroit, their EP kicks off with ‘Machine Code’, a frazzled techno cut with bleeps and alarms, sirens and rusty synths that all make for intense listening. On the flip ‘Recursive Descent’ is even more unhinged, with a see-sawing, saw-tooth synth line ripping up frantic hits and loopy drums and getting right into your brain as it does so. ‘Compiler’ is a more subtle, stripped back and seductive techno roller with supple synths undulating above rooted, rubbery kicks and woodpecker like percussion.

Having seen prior releases on Italian label, Dog in the Night Records and French label Odd Frequencies, 45 ACP has caught the attention of L.I.E.S. For his comeback release on Ukraine’s Wicked Bass label, the gloomy producer hiding behind the alias Raw M.T. presents another set of trippy, yet noticeably simplified masterpieces of 90’s E-werk informed analog techno. ‘Falling Into Nowhere’ with its melancholic xylo drops and Twin Peaks infused pads takes us to a setting of descending sadness, while random peak leads and swinging hats on ‘Abductions’ and ‘Essense’, in contrast, contribute to a much more dancefloor-friendly and optimistic picture. Three fine cuts that will work both at peak and afterparty time.

Given their obsession with the analogue-rich, stargazing sound of early ’90s intelligent techno, it seems fitting that the latest Forbidden Planet release sees the return of Mono Junk. Predictably, the veteran producer is on fine form, delivering cuts bristling with yearning, sci-fi tinged melodies, restless arpeggios, far-sighted electronics and raw, stripped-back drum machine rhythms. While much of the EP is bold, melodious and intoxicating (see “Prince of the Night”, for starters), Mono Junk also indulges his rarely seen dub techno influences on “Channel B (Remix)”, before reaching for the stars with the Legowelt-esque synth beauty of “Maalisku”.
