Planet 303 is a distant astral body where acid rules suprem and the soundtracks that play out there are always unreal, just like this latest one from Acid Synthesis. ‘Actu Ikulurit’ blends 90s breakbeats and dreamy techno synth work with an undulating acid lien that anchors you to the floor. ‘Semplicita Aciduza’ is a little more serene but comes with some lovely melodic rain that falls down the face of the 303 and ‘Hafna 303s’ brings a psychedelic and colourful edge. ‘Actu Malti’ closes with plenty of journeying cosmic charm and celestial energy.

His Orbital Mechanics series has carried some of his most sharply focused electro workouts of the past two years and so it continues with this new care package from the dark side of the circuit board. ‘DNS Musik’ is a nightmarish electro-techno growler, while ‘Programming Your Mind’ has a sleeker approach without disrupting the eerie mood. ‘Endless Moments Of Beauty’ has a stronger melancholic tint to its expansive pads, and ‘Memorable Nights’ lays on some heavy-hearted emotional tones which offer a fine foil to the tougher demeanour of the A-side.

Over the years, Ed Upton has released an insanely large volume of records as DMX Krew, though his quality level as rarely dipped below “brilliant”. While many of these EPs and albums explore his love of electro, he’s not averse to exploring sci-fi techno, jacking house and throbbing Italo-disco. ‘Unhooked’, the track that opens his first 12″ of 2022, is deliciously dark and creepy, sitting somewhere between the lo-fi techno of L.I.E.S, the acid-fired rave-era insanity of Aphex Twin and bittersweet dancefloor melancholia. Elsewhere, he peppers a crispy breakbeat with ghostly chords and bubbly lead lines on ‘Orange Cat Print’, summons the spirit of the apocalypse on doom-laden acid-electro number ‘Didgerididnt’ and delivers sturdy, mind-mangling electro thrills on ‘Dust Devil’.
