Lucy – Reworks [SA10YEARSEP]

With the ‘Lucy Reworks’ EP, label head Lucy, nom de techno of Luca Mortellaro, revisits four pivotal tracks from his label’s peerless catalogue. In their original form, these tracks from Donato Dozzy, Caterina Barbieri, Lucy & Klock and Xhin each represent significant and deeply personal moments for Mortellaro in Stroboscopic Artefacts’ history. And like the recent ‘Ten Years Of Artefacts’ album and the currently ongoing tour, this EP is a chance for Mortellaro to look back fondly at the label’s past while closely considering its present and its future.

Xhin – The Realm EP [TOKEN021]

Xhin with a four track EP for Token delivers dark-primal rhythm tracks with enough vitality to keep from getting dull. The unforgiving broken stomp of “The Realm” is enough on its own, let alone when it has great rips of tone and melody pulsing over the top. There’s deeper moments offered too, in the spacious sound bath that is “Elliptic”, but really it’s the smack down of the other three tracks that will deliver the goods for existing fans.

Xhin – Monad III [SAM003]

Xhin - Monad III

The Monad saga continues at Berlin’s Stroboscopic Artefacts (SA) and it’s Xhin’s turn to step up for vol.3. Dissect is certainly the right phrase to use here, because Xhin approaches his music with the understanding and the precision of a neurosurgeon. Opening track Mind, is a pounding piece of techno minimalism, there is just enough fodder in this track to stimulate your senses, whet your perception; the scene is sparse, dark and cold and you will get lost in here, so keep calm, and start to let your mind wander around.

Xhin – Fixing The Error Link [SA002]

Stroboscopic Artefacts is proud to welcome on board singapore-based Xhin (Meerestief). With his production wizardry he has been crafting ominous cuts of cutting-edge techno. “Fixing The Error” is an enormous peak-time club killer. Xhin knits together the sinister sound of the revolt of the machines. High frequency drum machines and ferrous sub-bass synthesizers are working urgently against the clock. Close your eyes, dissolve, step into dystopia. You are transported into a post-human cityscape where strobes reflect off smelting metallic sounds and deafening alarms wail. These warning codes, layer upon layer, fashion a vision of a Metropolis gorging itself on sprawling noises. The flip side, “Link” has no narrative. Instead, this deep, brooding slice of dub-techno is composed of pure atmospheric pressure. The undercarrige slithers and slinks, interrupted by crackles of lightening and prehistoric rumbles. The result is a construction created in a cold palate of pyrite grey: bubbling, spherical and terrifying. This is dark. This is urgent. This is Xhin.
