Osunlade – Dedication EP [YSD082]

Yoruba presents a new Osunlade release. The high priest of house, his sound legitimizes the unseen spirit world that informs the pulse in every song he crafts. ‘Dedication EP’ functions like a sound library, a place where you can find indigenous rhythms from around the world, making Osunlade’s musical signature both ancient and futuristic. Jazz and global citizenship come through in his latest work, a decade based in Greece and a lifetime submerged in the participation, creation and production of music. With ‘Dedication EP’, Osunlade boldly presents a mid-tempo meditative musical essay with reflections in the form of everyday conversations and everyday life. These selections meet global feelings of political anxiety with rhythm patterns that bring you closer to the gift of transcendence.

‘Dionne’ is a one of a kind rarity. Osunlade pulls and draws from the lovely days of old, paying homage to house music as it once was, when vocal edits were the vibe and pulse of an emerging sound. With traditional bata drums, filters and just good old fashioned groove on top of groove. The b-side is an ode to the bossa sound with a pulsating heart beat, funky melodies and smooth rhodes topped with a quirky yet fun vocal asking the question “what gets you high?” It’s music here that gets us high.

Kai KZR Alce of NDATL announces the upcoming release of Olmec Save Us by R&B powerhouse Donnie. The original mixes produced by Alce is marked by high-end tones and layered, multitracked vocals. The musicality conveys an otherworldly, high-frequency vibration and is generally more percussive, with greater emphasis on the keyboards (played by Ricky Corey). While listeners are treated to the full-length orignal versions of Donnie’s epic tale, the Yoruba Soul Mix by noted house producer Osunlade allows for a deeper interpretation of the overall message. Also included are instrumentals of both versions that will have house heads anticipating personal and creative transformation through the sound and on the dance oor.

Rafael Moraes – Modern Traditions EP [YSD045]

https://i0.wp.com/images.junostatic.com/300/CS471008-01A-MED.jpg

Live percussionist  turned DJ/producer, Rafael Moraes presents intelligently blends elements of jazz, broken beat, Latin rhythms and deep house. ‘Ahead’ demonstrates his expertise and creativity in fusing different rhythms with Caribbean and Brazilian genres; intricate beats that gain momentum over a poignantly incessant piano loop and  the equally yearning vocals of Andre Torquato. The heat rises ever so slightly with the thumping b line and off beat rhythms of ‘What’, yet the trance like spectrum of sounds make it an ideal track for 5 in the morning. The B side’s ‘Birth’ is equally, if not more, meditative. This tranquil and organic blend of hushed whispers and Amazonian sounds, coupled with the gradual and refined crescendo of rhythms leaves you with a sense of completion; a sense that “Modern Traditions”, Moraes’ labor of love, is finally delivered.

Torquato & Boghosian – Torquato & Boghosian Remixes [YSD046]

Yoruba presents a selection of diverse and interesting remixes for Torquato and Boghosian’s acclaimed debut. First up, Afefe Iku delivers a much deeper, weightier version of Paradice laden with heavy synth stabs and woody percussive elements. Aybee takes When U Touch Me nto much deeper realms, stripping back the original groove . It’s remarkably simple but flawlessly executed, the chord motif working effortlessly alongside the crisp hats. Atone tackles Zulu Girl and in the process unravels a much more mechanical track, a massive mid-tempo thud dominating over delayed cymbal crashes and ghostly vocals.
