VA – Genesis Tracks Vol.2 [SIS027]

Sistrum welcomes the second installment in the Genesis Tracks series, bringing together four special cuts from Patrice Scott, Reggie Dokes, Eric Cloutier and Kai Alce. Label head, Patrice Scott opens the EP right – setting the tone with a smooth excursion into lush chord stabs and deep, low end vibrations. Vintage strings ride high, while tinkling jazz keys dance amongst the waveforms, making for yet another future classic in the Sistrum lineage. Mr. Reggie Dokes offers up nothing less than a baptism by sound for his contribution, going deep with reverberant rhythms and crisp synth work, crafting an interstellar afro journey of the highest order. Keeping the quality at its highest, Eric Cloutier’s entry is a deep, techy mover – designed to lock the dancefloor into a hypnotic state. Drifting strings provide the foundation for highly modulated, gritty chord stabs to lead the way through the darkest of dancefloors. Kai Alce rounds out the EP in fine form – stripping things back to the essentials. ‘Jelly’ is raw, bouncy goodness, simply put. The filtered down acid-esque bassline is nothing short of a call to movement for all believers in the authentic sounds of house music.

The Dangerfeel Newbies – What Am I Here For? [NDATL016]

Soulful fusionists The Dangerfeel Newbies are an interesting proposition. Certainly, the Atlanta-based trio has made an impression on NDATL Muzik boss Kai Alice, who’s decided to release a trio of his own interpretations of Hariet album highlight “What Am I Here For”. He begins by delivering a classic soulful house interpretation, placing the original’s superb vocal and twinkling jazz pianos right at the heart of the action. Those superb piano lines come to the fore on his Piano Instrumental, before the Late Night Mix sees Alice sauntering off on a hazy, duvet-warm deep house tip. Best of all, though, is the bonus remix of “Swingin’ With The New Jacks”, a fizzing, rolling deep house groover replete with vibraphone solos and battling jazz horns.

Kai Alce – Sunday Transit [POEM001]

Detroit house hero Kai Alce inaugurates People Of Earth with a stellar EP showcasing his knack for the most soulful of modern, Motor City deep house. First up “Quiet Revenge” has that classic Three Chairs kind of vibe; all soulful deepness that this circle and their extended cast of peers have the knack for, complete with smooth Rhodes piano and dusty rhythms. On the flip “Sunday Transit” is a more straight up deep house jam with female vocals shouting out the lowdown loud and clear; wicked groove on this one. The dub version of this surpasses the vocal for those less keen, but why would you.

VA – Finale Underground Vol.2 – Detroit Visionaries [FU002]

For those turned on by the far-sighted, sci-fi inspired sounds of Detroit deep house and techno, this EP from Michael Zucker’s Finale Underground imprint (an offshoot of his Finale Sessions label) should be an essential purchase. With the likes of Patrice Scott, Keith Worthy and Luke Hess involved, you’d expect the quality threshold to be high. It is, of course, resulting in a quartet of killer tracks. Worthy’s hypnotic techno jam “Tolox” is a definite highlight, though it pales in comparison to the analogue futurism of Luke Hess’s brilliant “Cyclops”. Best of all, though, is Scott’s “Journey Into The Unknown”, which bobs, weaves, bubbles and spits to the rush-inducing deep house sound of undulating synthesizer melodies and classic, Transmat-style Motor City rhythms.

Fred P / Kai Alce – Finale Sessions Select Vol.1 [FSS001]

Finale Sessions presents a new series of releases from the vault on 10″ format. This first release pairs two bonafide legends in the shape of Fred P and Kai Alce, both known for their incredibly accomplished takes on house. Fred P’s “Ram” is a deep excursion into pulsing chords and delicate atmosphere, while Kai Alce’s “Scene 1” is a raw, acidic affair for peak time sets – both are essential cuts.

Brett Dancer – The Hybrid EP [NDATL011]

NDATL continues with new tracks crafted by Brett Dancer known for his deep productions and being the creator of seminal label Trackmode. After a long hiatus he returned about year ago with the highly sought after Euphonic Moods EP. Now he he comes with three stormin deep tracks that encompass the Dancer sound. The title track Hybrid is a hypnotic journey that dance!oor will enjoy taking. Someone is a lost dub of the hit by Kai Alce & Phil Asher feat Kayenne released on Restless Soul in 2010. Here his rendition takes a very warped sublime aproach and with a little help from Glenn Crocker aka Glenn Underground this one will defnitely set a mood. Now Something rounds out the 12 with straight dance!oor mover! The light & uplifting key work & bouncin bassline shows Bretts ability to keep it deep and bumpin.

Giorgio Luceri – Prophetic Vibes EP [FBNM005]

Fly by Night Music present the next release from Italian producer Giorgio Luceri. Giorgio delivers two sumptuous house tracks here with completely opposite dispositions, the breezin’ Balearic bliss of Prophetic Vibes versus the dark Detroitian dissonance of Woman. Woman, with thudding drums and deep subs setting the picture right away. Warbling synth begin to layer before the crescendo begins with fat analog stabs, rushing synth pads and airy groans. Lastly Kai Alce remixes of Woman. Simple but effective KZR delivers a retro house groove fitted out with lo-fi samples and old school sequenced MPC drum.

Donnie – Olmec Save Us [NDATL009]

Kai KZR Alce of NDATL announces the upcoming release of Olmec Save Us by R&B powerhouse Donnie. The original mixes produced by Alce is marked by high-end tones and layered, multitracked vocals. The musicality conveys an otherworldly, high-frequency vibration and is generally more percussive, with greater emphasis on the keyboards (played by Ricky Corey). While listeners are treated to the full-length orignal versions of Donnie’s epic tale, the Yoruba Soul Mix by noted house producer Osunlade allows for a deeper interpretation of the overall message. Also included are instrumentals of both versions that will have house heads anticipating personal and creative transformation through the sound and on the dance oor.

Kai Alcé feat. Azulu Phantom – Willow EP [DEEPEXPLORER025-12]

Deep Explorer imprint comes correct with a limited edition white label 10″ from Kai Alce. The Willow EP positively drips with Detroit machine soul; the title track features floating synths and a subtle bassline working beneath Azulu Phantom’s vocals. This leads into the excellent “Track 3”, which features some raw, brittle drums, soulful moans and an unforgettably deep bass line. Flip over for the acid-tinged Deep Explorer remix of the title track, which takes the original and spans it out over an entire side of wax with subtly hypnotic results.

Kai Alcé & Omar-S – Jive Time (Unreleased Beats) [NDATL008]

This limited 7″ offers two deliciously simple but bombastically effective drum tracks that should appeal to those who like to pepper their mixes with cute percussive interludes. Both tracks are stripped-down, 808-heavy grooves based on a pair of collaborations with Kai Alce that first appeared on the Jive Time 12″ in December 2010. The percussion is of course spot on, with plenty of repetitive claps, 808 cowbells and, on flipside “Incognigro (Bonus Beats)”, the most subtle of deep house chords.
