The annual unusual sounds gathering in Barcelona is here again. The 2023 edition of the OMBRA Festival is a special one, celebrating the 5th anniversary. The festival is returning it’s former industrial aesthetics, after one year of transition from the former space Utopia 126, the industrial area in El Poublenou.
This year the festival will happen in a new and captivating venue that perfectly embodies OMBRA’s essence of industrial aesthetics, the former Mercedes-Benz factory, ENMASA.
The former ENMASA factory (Empresa Nacional de Motores de Aviación) is probably the most industrial and gigantic architectural space in Barcelona, an emblematic building that forms part of the city’s rich history. Designed by the architect Robert Terrades, it is located in the outlying district of Sant Adrià and was built between 1940 and 1975 following the aesthetic canons of the modern and rationalist movement, which moulded its structure and endowed it with a sober and overwhelming magnificence.
OMBRA is a project born from two melancholic music lovers who could not find anywhere around them where they could share and enjoy the passion that united them. OMBRA presents a diverse selection ranging from post-punk and minimal wave to EBM/industrial, electro, Italo and Synth, as well as ventures into experimental sounds and unyielding energy, creating a complete immersive experience.
The line-up is remarkable, rising up to the expectation of a annyversary edition. There are bands like Belgrado, Ductape, Hammershøi, Linear Movement, Mitra Mitra, Neon Electronics, Openthenext, Spammerheads, Years Of Denial, Zona Utopica Garantita, live performances by Chino, JG Outsider, Linja, Manisdron, Oliver Decrow, Radiation 30376, Radical G, Robot City, Teslasonic, The Exaltics, The NE-21, Umwelt, WLDV and DJ sets from Asymetric80, Chloe Lula, Dark Vektor, Elmer Davy, Ernestas Sadau, Internal Operator, Olivia, Oriana, Pastram and Solar.
